A mid round pick for a rental WR that doesn't know the offense, halfway through the year, why? Just look into signing Nicks as a UFA.

He will probably have to sign a 1 year deal in hopes of bringing his value up. Is there any club so WR poor to give him stupid money?

Oh yes. I'm not defending Schefter or the move...I simply just didn't think it would be the end of the world if we did.

I would not support it though. And I'm not anti LaFell, but I'm damn sure in the camp who thinks he's just average. He does a lot of the little things that make him very valuable to us though, so no complaints here.

Because you still don't understand the relevance of targets and therefore per-target production.

I'll be honest, I've seen you defend LaFell plenty, and I honestly don't understand it. The guy isn't worthless, but if he was gone after this year, I wouldn't lose any sleep. His concentration issues and lack of speed mean that he'll never be more than what he is.

You never know how someone will do in a feature role until they're asked to do so, but my eyes and the numbers both say that LaFell has done swimmingly as the #2. And we can say that with confidence because his rate stats have been consistent. His career catch percentage is 57.2%, his total in 2012 was 57.9% and his mark this season is 58.3%. The yards per target are down a bit in 2013 after leading the team in that last season and posting an incredible 10.9 in 2011, but I imagine that has more to do with the offense taking fewer shots downfield than LaFell's actual performance. Having better catch percentages and yards per target numbers both this season and last season than Steve Smith obviously doesn't mean he could replace Smith because those rates almost always drop with increased use, but they're quite good for what he's asked to do. If the team doesn't bring him back for 2014, you will definitely notice his absence. He's not just "a guy."
