#1) Nothing in that says the Bears are having doubts about Peppers. In fact, it says that he's been excellent for them.

#2) That's from some random Bears fan's blog, not a reputable source.

#3) Guys renegotiate their base salaries down all the time. That won't be hard for Chicago to do. In fact, agents regularly use inflated base salaries at the end of the deal that no one expects the player to get in order to make the deal look like it's for more money than it really is.

Distressingly, because almost all of CJ's base this season was converted to signing bonus, it's going to be really hard to do anything with his contract the rest of the way. If for some reason the Panthers wanted to cut him after this season, the dead money would be $16.3 million.

I was referring to doubts about keeping him. Reputable or not, their numbers are correct, based on what I've seen elsewhere. The issue, here and for Johnson, is when does one player, no matter how good, become too expensive for a team. Especially if their on-field production does not live up to expectations. It's subjective, and there are surely doubts in Chicago.
