Overall pay cut or just more money up front to create cap space?

Thought we already created enough cap space to sign a player or two or extend a player like Hardy.

This is more than likely terrible news with more money pushed into future seasons.

Details on Carolina Panthers LB Jon Beason's restructured deal - ESPN

I just got a glance at the details of the contract Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason restructured earlier this week.

It’s pretty simple. Beason took a significant pay cut and didn’t recoup any of it with up front money.

Under the new deal, Beason’s base salary for this year dropped from $5.25 million to $1 million, which is fully guaranteed. That drops Beason’s cap figure for this year from $9.5 million to $5.25 million.

The rest of Beason’s contract, which runs through 2016, remained untouched. That means there’s a good chance Beason will have to restructure again next year because his 2014 cap figure is $10.75 million.

The Panthers now are $12.8 million under this year’s cap.

I think he realizes that we're doing him a solid just by keeping him, plus he seems like a genuine "team first" guy.

I'm nervous about having him at WLB and flipping TD back to Sam, though. Hopefully that's something we come to our senses about early in the preseason.

Holy shit, that's nice of him. I didn't expect it be a pay cut because usually that would happen back in May or June when teams tell a guy to either accept a cut or get cut. This time of year a restructuring is generally converting salary to bonus.

Awesome, I just want to see Davis, Keek and Beason on the field together and in midseason form.

Right now Keek is the only one on the practice field, early days still.

I'd bet the farm, if I had one, they won't all three make it to midseason. Well, not the farm, but maybe a cow or two or some of that reefer I'd be growing behind the corn.
