Ginn hasn't been a legitimate part of a WR corp since his Miami days.
He is primarily a returner. He is an upgrade over whomever we had returning kick or punts last year.

Hixon had a 66% catch rate last year. A clear and massive improvement over Murphy.

Both were nice additions, neither was a dumb decision.

Whats dumb is to be once again relying on Edwards and Gettis to make an impact. They are both going into year 4. How long to you want to carry them. AE has 5 catches in 3 damn years, Gettis hasnt caught a ball in the last 2 seasons.

What I see is a bunch of returners AE/Ginn/Pilares/Adams. What we need are receivers that can catch the damn ball (Hixon v Murphy).

Smitty Lafell and Olsen did alright year 1 under Newton. No hands Murphy also managed to beat everyone else out for the #3 in year 1. Im not worried about adding Hixon.

We could literally dump AE and Gettis today and be a better team for it.

When do we replace Smitty. None of these guys look like a #1 receiver. Wait till we have a top 10 pick?

Did ginn get a signing bonus? He may not make it through camp.

I haven't disliked any of the moves so far. I hope we improve DL / OL / DB

Wr/cb/dl has been shitty for ever. Maybe he's finally trying to stock up and see what's worth keeping. What's been happening ain't working. Laffell isn't that good and that's the only qulity thing behind smith. Hixon was behind nicks and Cruz. He looks legit if given a shot.

I see the positive and negative of this. He's a good player, but also injury prone and we didn't really need to sign him after getting Ginn. Meatpile has a point about Ginn's contract, but considering the need at PR, I don't think that's likely at all.

I do like adding a good player, though. Just please shut the fuck up about WR being a need. It's not.

Waiting on the official numbers to be released on Hixon. I'll poke around tomorrow to see what they are.

And yet he signed here because he was offered a bigger role in the offense. Look at his quotes.

Sure, just as Ginn as an upgrade over Murphy. Signing both was dumb, though, because it takes away experience from the young guys and pushes one more off the roster.

What part of "The fourth most targeted WR last season was Armanti Edwards with 9 (catching five)" do you have such enormous trouble understanding? No one is relying on either of those guys to make an impact right now, but the whole point of the fourth and fifth spots is to get guys on the field and develop them so that they might be useful as one of the top three wideouts in the future.

Saw an observor article a day or two ago that talked about Beason being willing to do whatever it takes to make the team successful. If that means playing SLB then so be it. My question is if that's the case, why wouldn't you take a paycut to help fill out the roster?

Would you if you were in his shoes? Restructuring to create cap room while not sacrificing money is fine, and lowering a base salary you wouldn't be getting anyway is fine too, but voluntarily giving up money when you're not in immediate danger of getting cut is a tough ask.

LOL, He wasnt promised a damn thing other than a chance to compete, like every other WR on the roster. Im sure he took one look at the WR's on our roster and concluded he had a great shot at being the #3 guy. SF let him walk, the only other team interested was the Bengals whom it appeared were using him as leverage to resign Pacman.

Not to mention we then went out and signed a WR with better hands and have committed 1/3 of our pre draft interviews to WR's.

Just about every WR in the league was better than Murphy last year.

Exactly who is it that is gonna receive less playing time or is gonna get cut that is pissing you off so much?

Ginn in a returner, Hixon is a #3 WR, why cant you see that?

So, your reasoning for not upgrading at the WR position is that AE only received 9 targets last year? Look, I get there are only so many targets to go around. I get that Shula will probably (hopefully) emphasise the run a little more and further reduce those numbers. I get that in a perfect world all we need are Smitty, LaFell, Olsen and Hixon. But shit happens.

Keep in mind it didnt take Smitty or Moose 4 years to make an impact at WR on this team. Even Gettis made an impact year 1, its a shame about the injuries but how long do we wait around on these guys? Its not like weve had such amazing debth that these guys were denied a chance.

Go read an article about him signing before posting any more on this subject. Neither Ginn or the team wants him to just be a return man. And as I noted previously, his career catch percentage isn't bad by any means. It's almost identical to what Steve Smith posted the last two seasons. Granted, Steve does more after he makes a catch than Ginn, but the idea that Ginn doesn't have the hands to be a receiver is false.

Armanti showed some flashes last season, while I'd like to see if Adams and Pilares can develop into something. If you weren't such a hard-headed oaf perhaps you would have realized the significance of Steve, Adams, and Pilares being the only WRs under contract for 2014. One and possibly both of the last two won't make the team, and even if one makes it they probably won't be active barring injury. The whole point of using young wideouts in the fourth and fifth spots is to develop them for more prominent roles later on.

Because it isn't true, which you would already know if you weren't so completely clueless about everything related to the Panthers or the NFL in general. Both Ginn and the team intend for him to be used as a wideout.
