Kelly's different from Harbaugh for various ways. Kelly is intriguing because Cam's somewhat unconventional but Harbaugh's pretty universal. Still, dealing with a guy who'll try to play Buffalo on you for leverage is going to change the equation.

Which, Buffalo just hired Doug Marrone, who I had to freaking look up. Bargain bin on that one.

and credit them for not being like Chicago and interviewing every OC that's ever been mentioned in an article on nfl.com. I know they want to make the most of the massive expenditure on Marshall and Beetus but someone should go ahead and work on that defense, too.

Harbaugh flirted with teams as well. There's nothing wrong with doing that to secure the best deal for yourself.

Actually not. Doug Marrone has a lot of NFL experience in addition to being a college head coach, which is why a lot of teams wanted to interview him.

bargain bin. He was a .500 coach in the big east. Doesn't mean he's an automatic failure, but there are other college guys that would be a lot higher on any list I'd put together.

Personally, if I were sought, I'd want to go to the best team. I don't know that Kelly talking to Buffalo is that, nor do I think that Harbaugh talking to Miami while they still have Sparano is ideal either. Does it make them bad coaches or bad people? No. But would it have a chance of impacting my search? Possibly.

You already admitted that you didn't even know who he was. Again, unlike most college head coaches, Marrone already has NFL experience. I don't know anything about his time with the Jets, but he was a pretty well respected OC under Sean Payton for his first three years with the Saints. He went to Syracuse to bolster his résuméand get some head coaching experience. The record isn't impressive if you don't follow college football, but Greg Robinson's four preceding seasons produced a record of 10-37. The Browns already interviewed Marrone, while the Eagles and Chargers had also requested interviews (not sure about anyone else). Just because you didn't know a guy doesn't mean he was "bargain bin." No one expects you to know every name, so you don't need to pretend like a guy is nothing simply because you weren't familiar with him. Don't turn this into another Shawne Merriman thing.

I had to look him up, which isn't the same. He's not memorable. And no, I'm not impressed with the hire, and yeah. It looks bargain bin. This looks like the least expensive option they could've taken.

Jesus Christ, man. You admitted that you have no clue who he was, but four different NFL teams either interviewed him or wanted to. No one is disputing that you know a lot about personnel guys and assistants, so it's ok to let it go when there was one you didn't know about. There's no need to make this into an argument just because you're too stubborn to admit that you said something stupid.

Kelly staying in college, BTW. Hopefully it's a matter of good fit that he's after, but between his demands for total power and two different "almosts", I wonder if that's going to impact his future prospects. Probably not much, but might come down to teams starting to just offer him outright and saying, 'this is what we have, are you in?'.

I said I had to look him up. I didn't say "I had no idea who he was". I know who the assistant line coach is for the Seahawks is, but that doesn't mean I've sat there and thought about him extensively for the head coaching job of the Bills, either. Those are two different things. Not everything is you catching someone in a mistake.
