$12 mil...but yeah...it's a lot. His cap number for 2013 would be $9.5 mil if we kept him.

It's really a choice between having multiple seasons of manageable pain that makes it hard to win or one season of replacement-level football with potentially no wins. I prefer the latter because that would allow the franchise to rebuild much more quickly. If you carry $50 million in dead cap for 2013 then Carolina might go 0-16, but at least that means the cap room in 2014 to start rebuilding the roster.

Scheme would matter going forward, re: ILB/OLB. Or 3-4, obviously.

He is a lesser player on the outside and still has to show he can stay healthy now. His contract makes me think they will ask him to re-structure.

Interesting thought. Think Rivera would stay for a purge like that? Sounds somewhat like the lame duck situation Fox found himself in. I don't see a new guy coming in wanting to deal with that his first year. Its all about win now.

No, Rivera wouldn't stay in that situation, but Richardson would never go for it anyway. I get the feeling they're going to make as few cuts as possible and drag out this disaster.

Would Beason & Keekly both play inside in a 3-4 ?

They would. It's not the only thing to consider of course, but yeah, they would.

Beason to SLB also wouldn't be a terrible thing.
