any of them could be something, but fuck Armanti.
I know everyone's hung up on having the next Steve Smith but that part truly would be a luxury. Most teams don't have a guy like that for long and certainly can't demand two.

I don't know if I've ever seen a player like Steve Smith, and I don't expect to see another one for a long time. We shouldn't be looking for the next Steve Smith, but rather a player who can assume the role of #1 receiver over the next couple of years.

actually a tar heel fan. I just like Hunter's explosiveness. He has some AJ Green-type length+athleticism, though clearly not the same production. Wasn't he coming off a knee injury as well?

yes, totally agree. If Armanti survives another year with a new GM, he truly is Rasputin reincarnate.

What is going on with Gettis? Thought he was off PUP? He showed a good bit of promise when he was playing, I thought anyway. Seemed to be well ahead of LaFell and I thought we'd be sort of ok with Smitty/Gettis/LaFell for now.

The word is he never has learned Chud's offense and looks rusty as hell in practice.

Id love to be in a position to add some weapons like Allen and Eifert that can grow with Cam.

But the truth is we need help in the trenches and secondary badly.

And building in the trenches helps everyone get better.

Better Oline gives Cam better protection, better holes for the RB's and buys more time for WR's to get open.

Better DLine helps the backers get free to make the tackle and less time for the scondary to cover quality WR's.

We gotta build this team right, look at Zona FFS.

you're right. Fortunately, this appears to be a rather deep draft in the trenches & secondary. All but eight of Scout's top 32 are from those preferred positions - DE's, DT's, G's, OT's, CB's, & S's.

What sucks is that we have needs on the OLine to tend to. Hurney never prioritized receiver, so I can understand not having talent there, but he prided himself on devoting resources towards a strong OLine. The fact is, given what he paid, we should be in a stronger position than we are in that spot.

Random Question: how would Bruce Irvin have done in this defense? Would he have been a situational DE only?

yeah. Difference, if anything, from last year to this is Kalil being out and Hangartner starting to play like I figured he would. Help has come from DT but you can see how well that looks without both of them in there the last few weeks. The last few years, mental toughness and physical toughness have been missing in spots. It's time to resolve that.

He was supposed to be competing with LaFell, righ? at least that was the plan. well, he apparently has never made a dent. what a waste. All those receivers that were brought in over the offseason, and no one was better than Armanti or gimpy Gettis?
