i hear what you're saying. i was more aiming it at the point, or the question, of are we running this o because he's not smart enough to run a different one, where he commands the field. and now you're throwin on me that he's not quick enough to do it during the play either. that sucks.

I don't know about whether or not he's "quick" enough. I'm saying that I've read he doesn't have the audible option.

I don't think it was a surprise that he didn't have full control of what they did last year. He did well in it, but I've mentioned that last year he didn't even signal guys into motion sometimes.

It's way too early to freak out. Some of the growing pains with a young QB - even one with 2, 3 years starting in Div1, comes when you ramp up how much O you put in and then there are some stumbles. Cam started one season D1, he's still young.

I don't think they're running the option/veer/spread type stuff because he can't do anything else, I think that's out of preference. They run Coryell stuff for two reasons, because it's Chud's thing and it's Cam's. It's a good fit for both, and even though the verbiage is long (Bunch RT, Quick Ace Rt, 238 F Corner) it's logical. There's just so much of it, and a cerebral coach might overthink it and drill fifteen different ways to run a route combination (formation, protection, outlet, motion/shift) that might only see one of those run. But you have to know them all.

But, that's where a Chip Kelly might help, in that college distills things down (some college coaches install everything in 3 days, which means you standardize those 3 days, go over it 3-4 times and then it's reiteration) without losing complexity. The teaching concepts are more solid, because you're losing so many guys every year. That's how Coryell started, but that was 50 years ago.

Ok, but are the coaches without any blame for Cam's situation? As QB coach, offensive coach, assistants on offense when do they pull their heads out of their asses and go to Cam and say "Come over here and work with us, see the photos and go over shit with us? Is Cam free to do as he pleases on the sidelines? I mean coaches are somewhat like parents - at some point you step in! Why was SMITTY the one who went to Cam and said stop sulking?

Cam is young and has an AWFUL lot to learn about the game as well as being part of a TEAM and becoming a leader. These are things that are quite obviously not already part of his makeup so someone needs to step in and guide him and that's where the coaches and the organization should be stepping in. It's easy to blame a young man who apparently wasn't raised with real great team/leadership examples and there were concerns about that before the draft so if he's not growing in those areas, is it fair to only attack him?

CHARLOTTE – Panthers quarterback Cam Newton blamed himself for the seven sacks and the safety the offense yielded to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and he praised tight end Greg Olsen for his strong showing.

Olsen blamed himself for some of the protection problems, and he praised the defense – led by rookie linebacker Luke Kuechly - for giving the Panthers a chance to win.

Kuechly blamed the defense for allowing the Broncos into the red zone three times and allowing them to twice reach the end zone once there.

Olsen did directly give up a sack. That's not to say that Chud should've had Miller on TEs so much, but I remember he and Hartsock both getting beaten by Miller, and that's just silly. They really shouldn't be in that position.
