The lack of TE depth is a problem. It seems we've been trying to replace Shockey with Tolbert, and it's been a miserable failure so far. I like him, but there's only so much you can do with a 5'9" fullback.

WR is not the problem by any stretch of the imagination.

I made no remark on HOW those teams acquired their talent, just that they did so. This team isn't capable of developing late (ie, post first) round talent.

WRs drafted in the top 10 since 2000:

Justin Blackmon - too early to tell
    A.J. Green - beast
    Julio Jones - beast
    Darrius Heyward-Bey - meh
    Michael Crabtree - terrible
    Calvin Johnson - beast
    Ted Ginn Jr. - terrible
    Braylon Edwards - meh
    Troy Williamson - terrible
    Mike Williams - terrible
    Larry Fitzgerald - beast
    Roy Williams - meh
    Reggie Williams - terrible
    Charles Rogers - terrible
    Andre Johnson - beast
    David Terrell - terrible
    Koren Robinson - terrible
    Peter Warrick - terrible
    Plaxico Burress - meh
    Travis Taylor - terrible

So even if you choose correctly and end up with one of the beasts, ask Larry Fitzgerald how easy it is to carry an offense by yourself if the QB is constantly under pressure. Frankly I'm not impressed by any of the WRs entering the 2013 draft anyway, but a WR in the first round would definitely be the wrong move. If you want to improve the passing game then take a great LT, although unfortunately there aren't any of those in this draft either.

Thanks for the list. You left out a couple but the point is still salient. However none of those 3 have a dominant LT either, merely a competent player there.

It's weird that people are complaining about this when LaFell is coming off a pretty good game.

I'm sort of waiting to see less "what the hell?" play calling before I say we don't have the players we need. Ok except oline, they can go.

the lack of passing performance from the backs in general is bizarre. Cam's just not looking there, which makes it a waste. In a situation like that it's almost better to do the Henning thing and cuck the offense down to three guys in a pattern.

I think that's the only difference, Shockey would be downfield more and Tolbert's on the edges. Though I saw them run F-post to him a couple of times and that didn't work out at all.
