We'll see if they can play 'big boy' basketball....

    Wolfpack has 3 McDonald's All-Americans

BY ANDREW CARTER - [email protected]

N.C. State might be looking up at Duke and North Carolina in the ACC standings, but the Blue Devils and Tar Heels are chasing the Wolfpack on the recruiting trail. At least when it comes to McDonald's All-Americans.

Three N.C. State basketball recruits have been selected to play in the 35th McDonald's All-American boys basketball game in Chicago on March 28.

The Wolfpack recruits are Rodney Purvis, a guard from Raleigh's Upper Room Academy; Tyler Lewis, a guard who played at Forsyth Country Day in 2010-11 before arriving at Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill this season; and T.J. Warren, a forward who played at Durham Riverside and Raleigh Word of God before going to Brewster Academy for this season.

N.C. State has never had more than two McDonald's All-Americans in one recruiting class, and the most recent time the Wolfpack had that many was in 1987, when both Chris Corchiani and Rodney Monroe were McDonald's All-Americans.

The Wolfpack also signed a pair of McDonald's All-Americans in 1979, when Sidney Lowe and Dereck Whittenburg played in the all-star game.

In addition to Wolfpack sophomore C.J. Leslie, 11 former N.C. State players were McDonald's All-Americans. Some of those include J.J. Hickson (2007), Brandon Costner (2005), Julius Hodge (2001) and Chris Washburn (1984).

Purvis learned that he had been chosen for the McDonald's game when it was announced on television Thursday night.

"We just celebrated," he said. "If you know the history of this game, you really appreciate what an honor it is to be chosen."

NC State's Purvis cleared to play

The NCAA has cleared freshman guard Rodney Purvis to play basketball at North Carolina State University, NC State athletic director Debbie Yow told WRAL Monday.

Purvis' playing eligibility was in question as the NCAA conducted a review of Upper Room Christian Academy in Raleigh to verify that the core credits meet the standards of the NCAA Eligibility Center.

The NCAA Eligibility Center High School Review states, “The initial-eligibility certification of a prospective student-athlete cannot be finalized without complete information from all high schools/programs the prospective student-athlete attended.”

According to the NCAA, during an “extended evaluation,” high schools need to inform the eligibility center of courses, grading scales and other related information relating to core classes in order to be approved.

Purvis, who took and passed summer classes at NC State, missed almost a week of class to start the fall semester and was also prevented from joining the basketball team on a preseason exhibition tour in Spain. Head coach Mark Gottfried said that not being able to attend the trip was difficult on the freshman, but the academics are the most important thing and he is confident in the NCAA process.

The 6-foot-2 Purvis is one of three highly-touted freshman recruited to the Wolfpack this season along with forward T.J. Warren and guard Tyler Lewis.

North Carolina State's 2014 recruiting class is off to a great start. They scored a pair of top 35 commitments on Wednesday,

Caleb and Cody Martin are headed to North Carolina State.
The twins out of Mocksville (N.C.) Davie County pledged to Mark Gottfried and his staff late Wednesday night, just a few days before they are set to visit N.C. State for their midnight madness festivities.

Their mother -- Jenny Bennett -- confirmed the news to Scout.com.

"They are real comfortable and they feel at home," Bennett told Scout.com. "It’s a relaxed atmosphere. The coaching staff is awesome. They liked them as well. It fits their style of play. They just love it."

Bennett said the twins also considered Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Miami, VCU and North Carolina.

"Nothing gave them the feeling they got when they were at State," Bennett said.

Both 6-foot-6 wing prospects, the Martin twins bring a lot to the table. They are each capable of defending a handful of positions and offensively they are versatile and skilled scorers.

Cody is ranked No. 32 overall in the 2014 class, while Caleb checks in at No. 33.

The Martins are the first two verbal pledges for North Carolina State in their 2014 recruiting class.

Told you a while ago, that if he can coach half as good as he has recruited so far you guys are going to be on top of the ACC soon if not this year and possibly for a long time to come.

We shall have to wait and see what happens when they play under the bright lights against stiff competition. The ACC is best when State is relevant (if I remember correctly :worried:)

BeeJay Anya no longer on Indiana's radar, according to report

BeeJay Anya helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in the U17 World Championships (USA Basketball).

6-9 center recently narrowed his list to IU and N.C. State

According to Evan Daniels, the national basketball recruiting analyst for FOXSports.com, Indiana has stopped recruiting Class of 2013 center BeeJay Anya in order to focus on forward Noah Vonleh.

There could be a big trickle-down effect on the Triangle.

Anya, a 6-foot-9, 275-pound senior at DeMatha, recently narrowed his recruiting list to Indiana and N.C. State. ESPN ranks him as the 31st-best player in the Class of 2013, and he visited Raleigh last weekend. The Wolfpack is also recruiting big men Dominic Woodson and Kennedy Meeks, although North Carolina and Georgetown are considered the frontrunners for Meeks. Woodson has narrowed his list to N.C. State and Baylor.

If Indiana is able to land Vonleh, a 6-8 forward ranked as the No. 8 senior by ESPN.com, that'd be a blow to the Tar Heels. They are pursuing Vonleh and top-ranked Andrew Wiggins, a small forward who will likely end up at Kentucky or Florida State, according to many recruiting experts.
