well we learned that an offseason doesnt simply fix the D and STs. Theyre both still horrible.

    Tremendously disappointing game.

I didn't get to see most of the first drive thanks to my friend's shitty satellite reception (of a local channel) so I only caught part of the first drive.

Kuechly does impress in some form. He's a contain guy, I don't know that he's going to make a lot of backfield plays. Hopefully, but don't know that's his style. Phillips was OK. Probably our 6th guy.

Honestly Jordan Senn isn't much a guy I like but he did bring down a lot of tackles. Onatolu did a good job in there from a tackling standpoint. Neither are going to beat blocks, which sucks that our experienced depth is essentially all tiny ST playing weakside linebackers. Didn't get a good feel for Phillips.

Joe Adams looks fun. Pilares needs to start showing something as a receiver.

I feel bad for Clausen, he's just abused at this point. Anderson was our best QB last night. Modestly accurate, went for the intermediate stuff, works the sidelines well. But, see, then he just started heaving the ball up around the time the PI calls came in, which was weird. The PI at the endzone was a legit call, but the others were iffy and honestly could've been called uncatchable. The throws didn't even feel designed to go to the receivers, just near them. Murphy put it together for a couple plays in there. Ajirotutu seems to be growing into it, too. Seems that the order for receivers seems to go by experience.

Cam held the ball too long a couple of times. Probably would've gotten more on the run in most circumstances, but that's all he did of worth. 2 of 6 even with a drop is poor. I don't know - I don't see worth in throwing too much on the 1st team O, but they could've given Cam and the 1st team line more than a series, given our various personnel that could come on and off - the three backs, etc, and then sub in some backups one by one. LaFell needed more time, too. Learn for a minute.

Drops by Tolbert and Vaughn suck, since neither had a lot of time to show much...Vaughn needs to pick it up, at least on ST, since he's not guaranteed anything and Poole might be a better runner.

I didn't honestly get a good feel for Silatolu out there. I read a friend suggest that they kept him out there most of the night (I didn't see him, just Bell, later) and that he excelled on simple assignments but that complex ones screwed him (how would he know?). I didn't see where pressure came from, with the first line.

And, just not happy with the overall product. I know it was all new last year, and we weren't great then either, but we apparently had bad intensity mid-week enough for Rivera to mention it, and then again this game. Shitty. Make a play.

I'm encouraged by the red zone defense and the takeaways. I don't expect us to be the Steel Curtain against a team like Houston. 3rd down sucked, but otherwise we kept their offense under 20 points.
