That's really not what I find to be true. He's battled some injuries, and while Hardy doesn't have as many sacks, they finished equal in pressures. CJ tailed off at the end, and we need depth, absolutely. I disagree that DE is the critical need.

I don't disagree, but when you have two good corners, you do open your options as well.

And, even when we had a great DL, you face a lot more short passes. Strategically, there's no one thing that gets us great.

More than DT? Then we definitely disagree. We have one and a half good ends. We have zero at DT.

We also need too many other things to burn a lot on a veteran guy we still have to pay. You are the most likely to note we're far from one person away.

DT is definitely in worse shape than DE, but being thin and inconsistent at DE does more damage to the defense overall than being shitty at DT. You can have a good defense with two quality DEs even if you just have two fatass DTs between them who do nothing but clog up the middle against the run.

Mario is still pretty young, and we're not talking about a whole bunch of picks. I think he would definitely improve the team more in both the short and long term than anyone we could pick at 8/9. Plus it's not like Hurney would spend the extra cap space on outside free agents anyway. That said, I agree that it's not going to happen.

well, yeah, less picks now that we know the value (and that Williams is worth less than Allen was).

thin and inconsistent is a lot different than requiring a first round pick to fix it, or else. I think we're in a position to do a number of things, we don't have to zero in on one thing. You could, since Hardy was so much worse at the run than pass, argue that a backup end with more size could bring Hardy's snap count back down to manageable time.

And I really don't know the Texans try to unload him, nor do I think he doesn't fit. His 5 sacks to start the season put him on pace for a career high.

I don't want to give the wrong idea, it's a new idea, and I like new ideas. The idea of spending the next six years talking about whether or not Coples gives a shit is unappetizing, but overanalysis tends to change the value of guys like that.

I don't believe that Hardy is a legitimate starter in the NFL, so finding a second starter is a pretty high priority in my opinion. I also think they're going to pick Coples if he's there, and we'd all rather have Mario. The kicker is that I don't see anything at 8/9 that would appear to have a huge impact on the future of the team. Kirkpatrick would be solid if he's there, but no DT is close to worth it and I don't see OT being great value even those guys are solid picks at that spot.

Arian Foster is also approaching free agency, along with some other smaller players, so they don't have enough cap room to pay everyone. Plus, Connor Barwin had 11.5 sacks replacing Williams.

Moot point since I don't think they can create the cap space. I just don't see anyone I'm crazy about being available at 8/9.

like someone more edge-rushy than Melvin too - but I could see Melvin being considered a better prospect by some.
For fuck's sake the only goddamned draft there's no tweener...

For whatever my opinion is worth I think its highly unlikely that we go after Williams. Yes there may be a fit, and yes a hometown draw but just doesn't seem to fit what Marty has stated publicly is their plan. Maybe Rivera talks Marty and Jerry into it.

What I really hope for is the 6-7 teams drafting ahead of us lose their minds and let Claiborne slip to us. Maybe he has a bad combine or something. If not I could live with Coples but I think he's a reach at 8-9.

And yea to Collin's point how in the hell do we find the cap space??? I saw recently that we were like a top 5 or 10 payroll in the league??? Most of that was done BEFORE Cam and Chud and Rivera showed up! I know I'm :beatdeadhorse5:
here but how Hurney overpays at RB, DE and Center all in the same year just floors me! From a team that went 2-14!

I need a rum and coke now!
