Rivera's overall philosophy. But McDermott is running the show.

Yesterday, we switched up how we were running the defense in the middle of the second half. We were getting chewed up on the underneath routes, and so he adjusted. And it was a mile off, no pun intended. We stayed ten yards out the rest of the game, and we were so terrified they were going to beat us deep, that we played off to the tune of them scoring TOUCHDOWNS on what, six of seven drives? Or seven of eight was it?

It was miserable. The talent is poor, but the playcalling was too. To just blame the players is dishonest.

McDermott was not fired with a whole staff. He was fired by his HC.

Delhomme was Delhomme all along, people just put up with it while the team was winning. Jake always threw the ball up for grabs under pressure, which made him a turnover machine. But kudos for pointing out another example where I went against the crowd and was proven correct.

McDermott was made a scapegoat in Philadelphia, and you've been ranting against him since before the season even started. You are incapable of discussing him rationally.

How is it McDermott\'s fault that this team was dangerously thin at the most important positions on defense (DT, DE) to began with, then the spot we were \"loaded\" with on defense was hit hard in the ass with no lube? Coaching will only get you so far with this JV High-school defense that\'s on the field right now. Regardless of the offense when a team scores 35 Points you should win the fucking game...

I can't find the post, but before the season I made the point that it will probably be a rough transition on defense given that it's such a big change from John Fox ball to what Rivera & McDermott have traditionally run, and that was before all the injuries. Contrary to what Purrsecutioner pretends, I also said that I'm not crazy about the Rivera/McDermott attacking style because it does expose you to additional risk, but I understood the appeal since this team can't get consistent pressure from just its front four. If someone like magnus wants to break down deficiencies in scheme, I'd love to read it, but "the defense sucks so (insert coach here) has to go!" isn't really helpful.

Shouldn't they cater more towards what the players have been used to, considering the lockout? Instead of cramming it down their throats on the fly?

I've said why. In my defense, I don't just say it sucks so he has to go, but it's easy to say that I do, because I harp on it a lot.

If someone wants to break it down, that'd be lovely. I simply don't have the time, or the inside knowledge - I can just go by what I see, and what I do know. I've never pretended to be anything more than a fan with a some x's and o's knowledge. I don't have access to playbooks and all that shitz.

I don't like McDermott. Like you said...I didn't like the hire. I get that you don't agree, and that's cool. You don't have to. But ultimately, I can say what I want to say. And I will never be the guy writing up ten page how we do what we do in this scheme because I won't ever have the time. I also don't see anyone else doing that here. Ultimately, it's "be patient because (insert coach's name here) is good, and our players suck". I don't see that helping much either, considering our defense is historically bad this year.

    But whatever.

discussing rationally if fine and all, but we're fucking 2-8. some shit is getting embarrassing. sunday, monday, tuesday, and half wednesday are gonna be a fucking irrational bitchfest because we suck. weds evening some sort of wierd hope starts creeping in because we're fans (not rational), and shit gets a little fluffy and well, hopeful. seems like normal 'board' behavior to me.

Not really. This season was about rebuilding anyway, and if they wanted the same system then they should have kept the same coaches. The real question is why Hurney locked up so much of the defense long-term without knowing if those guys fit the new system.

I don't mind criticism of the defense, but Purr's obsession with McDermott started before the season and goes on whether the team wins or loses. It's old and stupid. There's just no real merit to it.

Not suggesting they should have kept the same system. Just maybe more of a happy medium between the two.
