OUCH!!! I'd say its safe to say he has played his last game as a Panther. This is HORRIBLE news. Looks like our next draft will pretty much be nothing but defensive players.

    Unreal.

I hate it for him. He was one of the good ones. Has to be devastated by this, and yeah, this doesn't bode well for his career, though it is something I imagine he can come back from, yet again.

Well maybe we can draft Luck, or trade that pick for a billion others, and improve. :p 'Cause it looks like our injuries this year are just mounting up, and that combined w a rookie QB, we're destined for another miserable year. But we can all at least be excited that we'll lose in awe inspiring and exciting ways.

    Fuck.

I mean...Hurney throwing that money out to him, and D-Will, I mean...this is looking grim. And I doubt Richardson ever fires Hurney.

Un fucking believable. That knee is fucking toast. Wow, what he could've been for us.

No, it was plenty fucking crazy. Keep in mind that Thomas Davis was not a free agent, and he would have played this season for about $3.5 million. The contract extension jacked his 2011 salary up to $8 million even if the team decided not to keep him beyond this season, which there was obviously no reason to do.

Bummer for Davis, though. He played hard and was pretty good when he could stay on the field.

That is tragic. Gotta feel bad for the guy. Three straight years. Terrible. Best of luck

From the above link I posted

The Panthers gave him a five-year, $35.5 million contract extension in July, but only $8 million of that money was guaranteed -- a $7 million signing bonus and $1 million base salary in 2011 -- which prevented the Panthers from taking a huge long-term salary cap hit in the event something like this happened again.

So we are on the hook for his base salary and can spread the 7 mil over the length of the contract?

No way in hell he gets anything more than vet minimum in 1 year increments for the rest of his career?

You can't spread over a contract that no longer exists. If they cut him at the end of the season, then Thomas Davis counts $5.83 million against the 2012 cap and nothing beyond that.

Can't say for sure, but read something from one of the ESPN pages earlier that he (Davis) was tweeting he feels his future doesn't look very good...at...all....

    dang...sucks...hate it for him....

and...us...suddenly a great LB corps looks very thin...
