Also - I'd argue that it's exactly the responsibility of the coach to collectively play greater than their talents......

But that only goes so far. I'm AMAZED by our interior line. 2 rookies, 2010 undrafted with one start, and nobody.

They cut Irvin, though. Addition by subtraction?

We know we're going to suck. Might as well make the Rooks play so they'll be ready next year.

I don't think Munnerlyn or a moving-up Godfrey makes for many worries here either. DT is, and while we could've/should've done more there in retrospect, we also seem to keep shitting out on all the patches we try.

Maybe there will be a stud DT around the 3rd or 4th pick next draft, and they'll actually take him.

I think those are the best of some very bad choices, but I don't particularly like either in the abstract. Munnerlyn is not only short, but also slight, so prolonged exposure will wear him down, especially given his physical style. Then Godfrey plays man well for a safety, but he's still a safety. He's not going to have the fluid hips and technique of a legitimate corner, which puts more pressure on either the pressure to get there or the safeties to help out. Given that I'm not expecting the former to happen, that will likely force more blitzing, which means more safeties in 1 on 1 responsibilities and therefore no ability to cover up any mistakes from the man coverage.

I'd be happy with a 'zero' defensive line group. What we have right now is definitely a negative -- taking away a lot from the back 7.

I really don't get the up side of moving Godfrey to NB. We're gonna have to blitz damn near every down because of how weak our DL is, and when you do that, you have to have good coverage in the backfield -- especially at safety. I trust Godfrey one hell of a lot more as our last line of defense than someone like Jordan Pugh.
