What are you basing your argument on? Im basing mine on last years stats. Maybe comparing Olsen to Gates is a stretch, but Olsen has never been used like Gates. Olsen should have a breakout year in this offense.

that will be interesting...of course, while we have a lot of promise at WR it probably doesn't matter past preseason. Barring a sell-high trade of Gettis, which should be smart, I don't see Edwards or Pilares impacting.

Watching the games and knowing what I was looking at. Also, you're not basing your argument on last year's stats. There's nothing in those numbers which even hints that the Panthers "have the 2nd deepest WR group in our conference, only behind the Saints," or that "With the addition of Olsen and Shockey we may have the best passing attack in the NFC South this season-if Cam is decent." You also said "Gettis and Lafell are still developing, but they're on par with any other #2 WR in our conference." Their statistics don't support any of those statements. In fact, they very strongly argue that those statements are ridiculous. 508 and 468 yards aren't insignificant, especially with terrible quarterback play, but they're also nowhere close to good, much less great.

Are you saying they're incapable of becoming good or just aren't good based on last year's numbers?

I think both can become very good WRs, but need some work. This will be a tell year for them because WRs normally take their biggest steps ahead in year 2.

So did you mean to say "division" instead of "conference"? Also, remember that Atlanta added Julio Jones, who probably becomes the second best wideout in the division after Roddy White. Realistically, the Panthers will have the worst passing game in the NFC South even if Newton does well, but I would be glad if the team just closes the gap on Tampa Bay in that respect.

I don't think Gettis has any chance of becoming more than a guy who can come in and run deep routes to stretch the defense, which is useful, but shouldn't make him a starter. LaFell is more versatile, but I haven't seen anything yet to make me believe he could be much more than average at best. Honestly, I think Pilares probably becomes the team's second best wideout behind Steve.
