who is looking for a starter right now at QB? There aren't many jobs out there that aren't already receiving competition from handpicked guys. Shit, sign the guy and tell him he's got 3 games to make something happen.

Realistically, Bulger could sign and start the entire year. That would be very good for the Panthers. He has to hurry, though. Time's a wastin'.

There's been lots of speculation as to whether Bulger actually wants a starting gig or if he's okay being a backup, no real statements from Marc.

seems to be. There are a couple quality possibilities, that will probably get a lot cheaper when Samuel is traded and one guy gets signed.

I'm iffy about bringing back Jake. Personally, I think he'd be an excellent mentor and locker room guy. His passion and fire has always had a positive impact. And reports are that once it was clear McCoy was going to start, Delhomme accepted his role and threw himself into mentoring, encouraging.

But if adding Delhomme to start, only to give over the team to Jimmy Claussen for half a season later on, is the plan...pass.

Carolina needs a legitimate starter for this season and maybe next. The team, the new coaching staff and fans deserve no less. Starting Jake Delhomme would be a disaster. He's a broken race horse.

Adding Jake as a mentor? Okay. I can live with the short term pain of Claussen or Newton. And I think Jake would excel as a mentor and as an emergency backup. But signing Jake to start would be bad news.

Nervous about these CBs. Captain doesn't match up well against most of the WR in our division.

Im not iffy,,,,,,,, I think it would a big GIANT step backwards. Look, Jake is a nice guy, but his playing days is over, maybe no fault of his own but his injuries did him in. If another team wants to sign Jake as a player, then LET THEM. But hopefully the only way we bring him back is to do something on the sidelines (coach?) or in the booth.
