yeah. league doesn't send document before PA starts to freak over it. These two can't stand each other right now.

I was hoping they wouldn't play so I wouldn't have to fork over the rest of my money for those motherfucking tickets that I can only sell for 10 bucks apiece on the street. :frown: I guess I could just lose my PSL's, but I doubt the Panthers could sell them for even half of what I paid for them at this point.

so looks like there'll be a deal tomorrow. Players have fucked all this up, IMO, in that they decided to act like they're taking their sweet time through the weekend (even though apparently the primaries are still working), and with their terrible over reaction to the owners' ratification.

Both sides have really just handled this kinda poorly and selfishly.

yup. bunch of selfish greedy bitches that I am going to have a really hard time rooting for and proudly associating myself with. Hope there will be more money funneled to f'd up (or future f'd up) vets. the rook cap is definitely a step in the right direction and I wish they would do away with the guaranteed bullshit entirely

I didn't have an issue at all with the players taking a day or so to look over the paperwork since it was a contract that affect them for 10 years. Since it's obvious there is no trust between the two sides it makes sense to not blindly sign it.

I just wonder how all this is going to effect free agency. Throw your best offer at a player and say you have 30 minutes otherwise we go else where? Teams still get 3 days to sign their own right? I have heard Atlanta is going to go hard after CJ, we need to go in and say "what will it take?" While I appreciate DeAngelo I think the money going to him is an expensive luxury. I'd rather throw it at a DT Mebane or a DB like Joseph. We are still three deep at RB w/o DeAngelo. That's hardly the case at DB or DT

Media says yes, Drew Brees has said no. But nothings confirmed or set in stone.

As far as DW, if Stewart is 100%, he's a luxury. But who knows about that...

However I've been saying that whatever money we spend should not be spent with this year in mind and spending on DW would likely be that, with diminishing returns say, three years from now.

So as much as I like him as a player, I'd absolutely not get into a bidding war with Denver and whoever else decides to go after him.

Agreed. BUT, this has the feel of a litmus test to it. The Panthers have kinda set themselves up for overpaying Williams.

Carolina cut vets last season and have been non-players in free agency for nearly three years. They've stated that they will indeed spend on free agency, and the time for signing guys will be short.

The focus early for most teams will be to clean up its own house before dipping into someone else's pool. Clubs will want to cut players they've been wanting to cut first before adding new players, mainly to get under the new salary cap. The Cowboys come immediately to mind. Thankfully, the Panthers have already done that, to the tune of $30M cap dollars. Now they can focus on signing their own.

Now's the time to spend. The Panthers have said they will. They've also said they prefer to develop from draft picks and keep their own guys.

That's Williams, and that means big money.

I don't necessarily believe that this would be wise for the Panthers to do. It has been noted on numerous occasions that running backs have a short life span. Getting the big money on their first FA contract is key to their career plans. Players like Chris Johnson are smart for pushing for the big money earlier in their careers instead of waiting for the rookie contract to run out.

And then there's the fact that running backs are a dime a dozen. Why overpay when you have three capable players waiting on the sidelines?

So it may not be wise to give Williams his payday. But I think the Panthers will. They've set themselves up for it.
