I question this blurb from SI writer Andrew Perloff:

Like Perloff, some have suggested that Cam Newton will benefit from lockout workouts with Weinke and Dorsey because they're "familiar" with Carolina's offense. I wasn't aware that Carolina had an offense yet, unless you want to inscribe the Chargers' offense over it.

Whatever. I think the Panthers are determined to start Newton from the get-go and I'd be highly shocked if they bring in a legit player (Jackson, Palmer, Bulger) to compete with him.

And the lockout seriously hurts Newton and the Panthers. It'll be ugly once all the lockout nonsense ends and the season gets underway.

Perloff is an idiot, which is why I didn't even bother reading that article when I saw it on SI.com. I do like Peter King's reporting, but don't think anything of his analysis. Don Banks is really the only credible NFL analysis SI still has following Dr. Z's stroke. They have a lot of guys I like in other sports, though.

It's probably more of a disadvantage for teams new systems to install. I do think there's some merit to that.
