Unlike the pick this year, there will be trade booty galore, take the best offer.

Matt Kalil is a fun, sentimental pick at OT, hard to say that he'll be rated that high in a year. if we're not able to keep CJ, we won't be able to remedy it hard enough until then - maybe Coples from UNC. I don't think we'll be in the market for WR Alshon Jeffery but he's got a lot of cred at this point already.

    Oh good lord.
If you had the # 1 pick next year, you pick andrew luck, and trade the ever loving shit out of him for a bazillion draft picks.
The bidding war would be a dream come true for us.
Picking anyone else with the first overall pick would be idiocy.

We can't sign draft picks, correct, so if this things kills the entire season, we would have the same draft order as this year and all of the draft picks would go back into the draft because they are unsigned. So we pick Luck and don't have to worry about Newton.

At least that's the way that I understand it.

Wrong....the players are drafted regardless if they play or have signed a contract. When you draft a player you obtain the right to that player which including signing him to a contract or dealing him away. But they won't go back into the "pot" to be re-drafted.

eh. it really does depend on how things look when the dust settles. it would be an extreme measure, but there are elements at play that see the draft as being unfair and unreasonable in the restrictions it places on players to maximize their earning potential. not sure what the order should or would look like after a complete shutdown. seems problematic either way. anyone recall or know what mlb or the nhl did draftwise following their shutdowns?

If they are not signed by the next year, they are draft eligible.

I don't know how the lockout affects that though.

If there is no season, then they obviously didn't hold out for a season. And no, like it or not, this franchise is tied to Cam for the next few years. That means no free agent QBs, no veteran QBs, no drafted QBs. Newton is it, so cross your mother fucking fingers.
