Judge considers him a wildcat quarterback, who sees plays only straight ahead, will have trouble with verbiage and is immature and a bit of a me-me personality.

It's true: Cam Newton will need a smack-down, and fast. Candidate for the smack-down...Ron Rivera. It better be him. If Newton gets the reality check right away, then there's hope. If not, then Judge may be right about Newton's future.

Then there's the question about the Panthers' organizational maturity. Will they be smart with Newton and let him/force him to sit? Or will they go all-in and risk permanently damaging their new franchise quarterback and the team with him? With no training camp or preseason to speak of, the risk is higher than it normally would be.

Personally, I'm more optimistic about Newton's prospects than Clark Judge is. Strong defense, good offensive line, elite running game, improving special teams... It's a pretty good framework to build from.

And I truly believe that with John Fox and his out-dated philosophies no longer in Charlotte, the Panthers will be able to cut loose and actually have some threat to them.

The Wildcat worked in the NFL for about two months.

He lost credibility when he said Ponder will success...

I fail to believe that a QB that never one a big game, noodle arm, horrible with the game on the line, leaves the pocket too fast, injury history will someone be better than Newton, Mallett, Locker...

it's not exactly breaking that Newton is

He's also the most talented guy in this draft, realistically, at that position, by most. Now, whether he was worth a #1, harder to say, but that's not what's at stake. The thing, pre-draft, that bothered me most is that people get all enamored that he can run, and it doesn't translate. Doesn't mean he can't develop, he's just further behind.

If there are called, exploiting runs, OK. Rolls, OK. Improv I'm not as big on, but if he does it well, do it, a little. Again I want the guy accurate and in the pocket. I could give a shit about the rest, just details.

Really, because I think Locker is pretty clearly the top physical talent at QB out of this draft class. I think people just put Cam at the top because he's black, but Locker is the better athlete and arguably has the stronger arm. Newton is a better combination of athleticism and passer. They share similar risks, Cam just has less flaws to correct than Jake.

It's certainly subjective. I was going on what I perceived as consensus, more than personal opinion, but going on film I did like him more than BG or Locker. Just none of them as initial starters.

I dunno.I'm getting ok with the guy, hard to really defend it though.theres as much issue in accuracy in this draft as any I can remember. Hate that.

All very good points, but of course you know we couldve never brought in another QB this soon named "Jake".
