    word is the Panthers are probably gonna keep him around another year as a starter and mentor for Cam Newton. thoughts?

    Clausen will probably start the first four games guaranteed. If he goes 2-2 (or better), he will keep the job (until we are eliminated from playoff contention) and Cam will carry the clipboard.

    If Clausen loses three or more of those first four games, it will be time for the Cam Newton Show.

    No chance Newton sits. I just don't see the #1 overall draft choice not playing. By picking him first, the Panthers have stated that Newton was the best player in the entire draft. The best player (with the best contract) cannot sit.

    Besides, that'd royally screw Clausen over if they did that. Talk about setting a guy up to fail. With each incomplete pass, the chants for Newton would grow louder and louder...

    IMO Newton is the Day 1 starter...

    I'm hearing that Clauseu is definitely back in control of the offense this year. They drafted Norton as trade-bait and have already fielded several calls clamoring for his rights.

    Screw that, I am not sold on Newton but no way he should sit while Clausen plays. If we managed to sign a guy like Hassleback or Volek then maybe I could see letting Cam sit behind a vet but not behind the gay pickle.

    Obviously a lot depends on when an agreement is reached, but I think it's more likely than not that Clausen gets traded somewhere else for a 2012 draft pick.
