My opinion too, but still kudos to the kid for following the advice. Newton has a lot of A-Rod's attitude, in that he's very conscious about and concerned with how people perceive him. Super-image-conscious, which is where all the "fake" comments come from, but it should also mean he will avoid the off-field situations that get a lot of rich young players in trouble. I'm still just concerned that he isn't a good enough quarterback.

I agree with alot of this.

I still think that he has an EXTREME drive to prove wrong his doubters, that he takes all the criticism and turns it into ammo.

He really reminds me of smitty in that way, without the sociopath part. I really think that he'll respond and work extremely hard.

 

A typical kid would have written a one page note, with general thank yous. He wrote a three page, personal letter.

Even if someone did suggest it to him, it shows he was paying attention during the meeting, and got enough out of the meeting to put some actual thoughts on paper.

My impression of the article, which just reinforces what I've seen of him, is that he has a lot of intelligence and charisma. That doesn't make him a great quarterback on the field, but it helps to have those charachteristics from a leader.

My biggest hope is he acts on this piece of advice.

That'll be tough to do. With a 55 million dollar contract, the number of people knocking at his door with their hand out isn't going to decrease.

 

I watched that ESPN show on the three Qbs last night. I couldn't believe the Hollywood-ness of the combine experience for Newton.

I would think it would be far calmer in Charlotte, sure hope it will be.
