It's going the other way, with teams cutting the middle men out and putting out information directly themselves. It gives them control over the message.

 

If it was economics, why did they bring in Joe Person when Chandler left? Or, given that Gantt had seniority, why didn't they demote Person instead? Must have been personality conflict. That or the sports editors heard Mags complain about Rivera getting more attention in national media than the local news.

 

Not much to write about except the draft right now, maybe they will add a writer when/if the labor issue gets worked out.

 

Plus he's still got that whole Moose thing hanging over him. That's what will really tarnish his legacy, imo.

And you're right that the beat just got weaker. But the beat is weak right now anyway. The lockout has made the next six months pretty much a cyclical regurgitation of the same news. We'll really miss Gantt's cynical, sharp tone this fall when football becomes relevant again.

like anything, depends on what they replace him with, whether or not it's a loss. I want to hate it for the guy, big hit to the ego, going from national quotable to local college, but guy still has a job.

 

This is so disappointing! is he off Panthers coverage for just for Charlotte Observer? or that other paper he wrote for as well?

 

one upside is that if they draft Cam, they don't need to hire a writer, they can just update the 3000 Cam articles Darin's already written.
