1995 Draft, Carolina holds the #1 overall pick and trades down with Cincy and draft Collins at #5. McNair goes at #3 and the first draft day blunder is made in Panther history.

Here we sit waiting for the 2011 #1 overall pick with Gabbert and Newton waiting in the wings. Will history repeat itself or will we be brave.

I am not so sure Collins could not have been our QB for ten or twelve years if Capers had handled it better. He had some solid years in New York taking them to the super bowl and a good year with the Titans as well.

Ki Jana Carter went number one that year so skipping him by trading down was a great move.

If we take Cam Newton I will be rooting for him to be the next great franchise QB but it is probably 50-50 at best.

Well if we take him and he busts, or we pass and he hits, at least we might be rid of Hurney.

I am torn like that as well. I am hoping he turns out to be at least as good as Michael Vick, but a large part of me worries he will be more like Jamarcus Russell. There is no doubt he has all the physical tools to be successful. I am more worried about his work ethic.

If you look at QBs drafted very high there have been a lot of busts over the years. Taking a QB this high is risky. On top of that Newton seems a bit immature which is a red flag for me.

I would much rather see us trade down or take a DT. There will veteran QBs out there or available via trade that could start for us next year and be decent.

I agree. If we are even able to have a free agency period this off season. I would rather have Donovan McNabb or Carson Palmer for a few years and take another impact player. However, part of me thinks, what if this guy is the real deal and becomes the next McNair? It's like playing the lottery, who knows?

If we take him number one overall I hope he turns out better than McNair. I want him to be the next Manning or Brady. Not that a McNair quality guy would not be a huge upgrade for us.

It really sucks that Luck did not declare. This would be so much more exciting.
