I typically would not want to go WR first. Sooner or later you have to address the passing game. The book on beating the Panthers has been to put a clamp on smith and stack the line. Some of that is personnel and some scheme.

We can get a guy that the secondary will have to at least double. That will leave SS with a chump and Shockey still out there. If the defense uses resources to cover then the running game opens up. Who will cover Gettis and Lafelle on third and long? For the first time in years, we would win the numbers game.

I think that is a situation you would prefer a young QB to be in if you hope for development. It would be attractive to the next Matt Cassell.

I don't know where Smith is, but he's definitely going to start. If we need a guy, we get a vet. You're not going to have two guys that were pretty good being the 4th and 5th guys, and a guy we spent a fucking 33 pick on not getting a uniform ever.

how Hurney has a job after that is just beyond me, it tends to make me believe JR had something to do with it

I think his self-analysis last offseason was dead on.

Gettis is basically Drew Carter with better hands. LaFell reminds me of Colbert. I think we can do better.

We can, but the question is whether or not it would matter with shaky QB play. I think TE, HB, and maybe even FB is where we have to get more production in the passing game.
