Maybe they don't think anyone would trade up for Bowers or Fairley.

not even a smokescreen. It's not the team saying this, it's the team saying something and the CO turning it into something different. The team's input on this story was saying they wanted an impact player.

I think they are trying to use the press to make other teams thinking we will draft Newton. This would make teams interested have to deal with us and not guess that he will drop to Denver. I think we are not interested in any QB in the draft. I even expect us to land Carson Palmer. I am never right about these things, but if I lost him, I would want a fast replacement. And besides, what free agent worth a crap would sign with Cincinnati? Their GM is a prick, their WRs are pricks, and their OL needs major upgrades.

Oh, and Carson's backup there? His brother, I think.

There is nothing that comes from the mouths of teams that is true this time of year. Everything is misleading which is probably why this story is a bit of a head scratch-er. Of course I wouldn't count out the team trading the #1 for a QB like a Kolb or Palmer but who know's. I am sure they are really stoked about the idea that this is such a weak draft and we have the #1.

The Observer as an organization wants us to take a QB. Not for the good of the team but for the good of the paper. They want a splashy player. They WANT to be writing stories about Cam Newton. The best part is that they use themselves as evidence that the Panthers will do just that. Every question they ask in an interview is about drafting a QB. Then they write a story about all the Panthers talk about is drafting a QB.

I do not think taking a QB makes sense for us. If Luck were there then sure but since he is not I do not see it. It would signal a full scale rebuilding and I do not think we are that bad. If we resign our own players and maybe add a piece or two in the draft and free agency we could be solid. We do need a QB badly but none of the guys available in the draft are going to be able to start and win right away. I would much prefer to see us get a veteran and then let Clausen and Pike sit on the bench and learn for a couple of years. We have enough young QBs who need to develop. We need a starter.

If they really are not interested in any of the DL then they really need to trade down.
