It is. But at the same time DE isn't really a position of strength, even with Johnson.

Without getting on who is better, I've watched Clemson exactly zero minutes last year, I don't think we are in position where this is a factor. We could use a guy teams need to gameplan for on the defensive line, period.

Which ones? By high do you mean second rounders?

No, the ones that Hurney & Fox were obviously high when they picked.

Hurney's not been awful in first round picks. I'm trying to think of the last first round player that's been less than solid. I have to go back to the Siefert days.

Its the trading away future first rounders for the next pick that's been a killer, combined with some questionable second round picks.

I just think the media isn't focused as much on the Panthers... like even Charles Davis who's been doing some Panther games had Bowers picked in his mock, but after talking with him, he started thinking yeah, I can see them going DT now...

the killers to me have been:

    1) the inability, lack of effort until last year, of drafting good wrs. still not sure that we have good ones.

    2) jake going kupoot at the same time jr decided to go cheap and wanting to wait until after he ditched Fox to make a move at QB

missing on some 2nds and even missing on a first (which i guess i consider Brown) happens and hurts but don't know that they were "killers" cuz we didn't wrap a ton of money into them. the edwards trade right now is the puzzler and hurts more than anything. having that 2nd in this draft would be huge for us.

the lack of our ability to draft decent wrs has me leaning to be content if we draft green, as it may be the only way we ever draft a good young wr. my druthers would be a QB. i like gabbert too. but honestly, at this moment i'm still in the anybody but fairly mode.

We got 61 tackles and 4 fucking sacks from our top 4 DTs combined last year. Christ on a stick. I didn't realize we were that bad. That was an off year for Jenks in his prime.

Projections are like assholes, everyone has one and the majority stink. If a guy is almost a lock to get drafted in the top five, he has to at least somewhat fit the elite status. Quinn might have more upside, but from what I'm reading, he's more a 3-4 LB/DE, and might not fit here as well as your prototypical 4-3 end.

My point is that the Panthers could certainly use a "solid" end. Right now Brown looks more like a "rear" end.

Panther should be taking anything from a DE, DT, CB, QB.... best player available. Pretty much all the players that are popping up in the top 10 picks in mock drafts play a position of need for the Panthers.

I've watched quinn play. He's 6-5 and around 265lb. He's bigger than Greg Hardy, so that's a DE. Bowers is over inflated due to his college production against weak competition. I'm betting he drops after his pro day/combine performance.

Pantehrs could use a solid DT WAY more than they could a DE. Not arguing with you about brown who BTW would fit better in a 3-4 as you mentioned earlier.

Wouldn't Bowers and Quinn have played against similar competition both being from the ACC?
