CHARLOTTE, NC - The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that Ricky Proehl will be an offensive consultant with the team this season, working primarily with wide receivers coach Fred Graves.
Proehl returns to the Panthers where he played three seasons for Carolina between 2003 and 2005. Overall, he spent 17 seasons in the NFL, beginning as a third round draft choice of the Arizona Cardinals in 1990 after playing collegiately at Wake Forest.

He finished his NFL career with 669 career receptions for 8,878 yards and 54 touchdowns, playing with Arizona, Seattle, Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Carolina. He also was a member of four Super Bowl teams, including championship teams at St. Louis and Indianapolis.

In three seasons with the Panthers Proehl caught 86 passes for 1,327 yards and eight
touchdowns and played on two playoff teams.

In 1990, Proehl and the Arizona Cardinals faced off with then Chicago LB Ronald Rivera.

    good.

Plenty of third tier assistants this year though. We're at 4 without an assistant DB coach or ST assistant.

Proehl will be great at teaching the young guys the timing routes.

The story about Rivera's start in coaching said he began working as an intern coach for free until he convinced Wannstedt that he was worth hiring. This has some similar aspects to it.

Wonder if he's still a season ticket holder. Glad to have him back here, I spoke to him briefly at his last training camp.

It's a good hire... these young guys can learn a lot from Ricky's work ethic and technique on what it takes to be successful in this league. Smitty's got to be loving the situation as well.

Just wish we had a QB
