Depends, easier to ask for advice than take orders.

Hopefully there is some respect there in that Proehl walked the walk as well as extended his career beyond what many are able to. Steve may know the run and catch part, but especially with the QB disasters he's suffered through, he most likely wants to show he still has it and Proehl certainly can offer advice on extending his career.

As a fan, it's nice to have a respected and solid player even show interest in the team after the ups and downs and defection of other players. It's easy to wonder what we're pouring our money into, and is the organization at the heart of the struggles & departures. Coaches can come and go, but if the higher ups are the true issue, there's not a lot to hope for. Having someone I at least perceive as a "good guy" WANT to come here gives hope that we don't have a secret Al Davis or Danny Snyder in the owner's box.

Good Lord, there's more coaches than players. Remember the good old days when there was a head coach and an assistant? No wonder so much is forked out in salaries.

We must consider what we had. Let him have the job. It is only up from where we are at now.

If we were going to draft Green to go along with our young WR corps, something we need to expand even if Smith stays, would an additional WR coach make sense? Here is how it would:

    1. 4 WRs on roster (Green, Lafell, Edwards, and Gettis) who are basically brand new.
    2. A person who knows the secrets of lasting 17 years in the NFL to get the most out of Smith.
    3. Possibly (this is a reach) that Charly Martin will develop as a special teamer and 5th WR--cut from Proehl's cloth.

    Slot: Smith, Martin, Edwards
    WR #1: Green (Smith)
    WR #2: Gettis, Lafell (Martin)
