Also, it should be fairly easy for a guy of his pedigree to dominate at Blinn.

Newton has the ability to be a great NFL QB. He is not ready to do it right away though. He will need a lot of developing. I think it is a bad idea to take a guy like that really high in the draft. You put a lot of pressure on the guy and or you give him more confidence than he deserves to have. I think Vince Young and or Russell would have been much better players if they had been drafted late in the first or in the second round.

Luck looked like he was another guy who could step in and play well right away but he was the only guy in the draft who looked that way. I do not think it would be smart to go QB in round one unless we trade down a good bit.

From what I've read, he's been taught to to check the primary receiver - if he's covered, pull it down and run to try to make something happen.

If this is true, I don't really want a "one read" QB who has the athletic ability to bully college defenders... because he'll scare no one in the NFL with his running ability.

Disclaimer - I'm not a big college football fan, so these opinions are formed on what I've read... so please take with a grain of salt.

That's actually great if it's true, b/c it shows he does what he's told. Tell him to check down.
