When you have the rare occasion to have the top pick in the draft, can you afford to draft a project?

I think we are in the "rare" position that we suck so bad, that we can take the chance on Newton. Look at it this way, as bad as we need a QB, if we draft Newton and he flops, then we're damn sure going to have the #1 pick again next year to make it right.

So why not take the chance that he does well?

Vince Young can barely spell his name. Seriously - I have a friend who has spent time with him, he's functionally retarded.

That said, there are risks. With a rookie cap, I'm much more open to that risk. $15 million guaranteed is not a franchise killer. $50 million guaranteed is.

And, we need a QB. More than anything. Badly. What good is a DT gonna do with Jimmy under Center? Or a WR? Or another DE?

newton will be a 6'6" 250 lb turd in the NFL. Trade down and get some serious help for a really shitty OL DL and WR corp. Oh yeah, coaching and play calling have been even shittier so that area is a bigger concern than who gets drafted in april

Who's to say that the new coach won't try to sign Matt Moore? I'd take Moore any day over Clausen, and with some proper coaching, he might figure things out. Just a thought.

You mean "Mr. Stare Down"? Maybe it was our coaching staff that coached him that way because JC started doing the same thing too.
