Yeah I can't see him as a Panther with his character issues... plus his dumbass decision making combined with Hurney? No telling what those two are capable of... they might get drunk and sign Clausen to a 10 year extension.

The Alphonso Smith thing was dumb, but the Panthers can hardly complain about trading first round picks for guys who don't do anything. Plus, I thought that Smith would be decent. The Hillis furor is overblown as well, since no one thought he'd be anything great. I liked him as a versatile fullback, but it's understandable that Denver wanted a true blocker and that his running style didn't fit their scheme as a halfback. It's not like any other team thought enough of him to offer much. But why is it that he doesn't get any credit for raping Chicago in the Cutler trade? Usually in that situation someone gets ten cents on the dollar, but Denver actually got the better end.

I cannot see McDaniels coming here as an OC since he'll have much better offers for that, but I'd offer him the head coaching job in a heartbeat. Belichick shat the bed in Cleveland, remember.

Very compelling argument for McD. Essentially same O, but run well.Ryan as DC would help round it out.

I don't know that Denver got the better end of the Cutler trade. Chicago got a franchise level QB (who occasionally will make a cover your eyes awful decision). As Panthers fans are acutely aware, you really need one of those to win in this league. Chicago is the #2 seed, while Denver is the #2 pick in the draft.

That might be a case that Denver screwed themselves by not taking 1st round players that could actually contribute

even if he Trent Dilfers a super bowl this year, Jay Cutler is a franchise quarterback no more than 10 games out of any year. The other games, he is Jake Delhomme.

What? Orton had a better season than Cutler again.

You should have one for McDaniels. Orton is nothing special, but Cutler is the poster child for how bad habits can hold back someone with elite physical talent. Josh McD would be an ideal hire for the Panthers. He's humbled, he's learned from what happened in Denver, and he's going to be a very good NFL head coach.

Agreed, and I think McDaniels is a big reason for Orton's play. Same thing for Cassel. Obviously, McD will never be a head coach here, certainly not now anyway, but I would love to see him come to our offense.
