These are names I've heard not necessarily like: Hue Jackson, Mularkey (tho his last HC stint blew. hard.) Schotty jr, Mornhinweg.

edit: sorry didn't realize this was about staffers, I looked at HC candidates.

none of those names are good head coaching candidates either. That's why I brought up staff, since we're going to hire a DC, so our only hope on actually wanting to make the offense better is with a stellar hire opposite the HC. Well, so much for that.

As others have said, that's probably the biggest concern. Hiring Davidson is what killed Fox, even moreso than the roster purge. People griped about Henning being predictable, but at least he was competent. Hell, the Carolina Tar Heels looked like more of a pro offense than the Carolina Panthers did (although as a Heels fan I would rather Shoop stay where he is). You've always been much more knowledgeable about assistants than I have, so if you can't think of anyone either then that's really worrisome.

Harbaugh hasn't returned our calls? Hm.

Out of the OCs listed, McDaniels doesn't seem like a bad fit. That seems a little fanboyish, picking the guy that was HC, and coached O with the Patriots, but he did great things with MC as their QB. He ran a great offense over there. He's young, brash, and he has HC experience now...could make him pretty attractive. As for the other names mentioned...eh...all shit.

and he wants 6? cant imagine Michigan balking at 800k with such a high number in place. Im guessing he is staying right out there where is now but with SF.

not sure I would answer from this train wreck in Charlotte either. Jerry Richardson fucked up by screwing over fox like he did and it is going to cost. Im not even sure he can get Mangini to come here.

Carroll got 7 a year to go to Seattle. I would think Harbaugh is looking for the same, or maybe a little better.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I'd be a little squeamish paying someone 6 mil a year who has, what 2 years of head coaching experience in college? I don't want to go totally cheap but if I'm going to pay top coin I'd like something a little more proven at the pro level

I think an NFL coordinator is superior to a college head coach. I suppose, Davis, Sabin, Spurrier, etc. make me feel that way. There are some coordinators who are brilliant, and they are used to thinking in terms of NFL trends and deception, not college.

I wanted Harbaugh, but I am now leaning against it. He is impressive, but his ego will be his downfall. He will want monster money and more control than we can give. JR makes a good point: Coordinators turned head coach dominate the playoffs. How many college coaches turned pro coach are in (and what is his record)?
