in that both are speculation of the supposed top available. The reasons Spurrier failed elsewhere aren't indicators of why Harbaugh might have a problem, or Luck for that matter.

But, definitely, what fans come up with and what the team needs most/what might work out best, doesn't need to be the same. The most successful guy last time, 2002, was Dungy. We tried for him. Second was Fox. I'm OK with that. IIRC, my guy was Lewis, and despite the Bengals, he did allright.

I don't think others are that guy - Grimm, Schottenheimer - but it doesn't have to be the guy that fans scream for.

I just hope it is, regardless of the popularity. I've been about Captain Comeback for over a year. Hell, if it were a choice of him or Luck, I choose him. He'll make another guy a star. Tell me about other coaches available you can say that about.

I was a Dungy guy myself back then...

so who is more responsible for the Colts' success: Dungy or Polian? Polian drafted Manning and spent four years building the team before Dungy ws hired.

BTW, as an interesting bit of coincidental-trivia-that-doesn't-really-mean-anything-but-is-fun, what QB did Polian fire in 1998 before he drafted Manning?

    Jim Harbaugh.

don't hold your breathe the Panthers will even hire a coach before a new CBA is in place

if he does, you can pretty much be guaranteed no lock-out, if he doesn't... well, do the math

I never saw Dungy as an option, and I don't think Dungy did either. He could pick where he could go and he picked the team with the QB.

Success? It's obviously a mix - I don't know that Polian has done an exceptional job, but a good one. It's a good team and that's what a GM is supposed to bring, but nothing spectacular in a few years. He made the manning pick, and he made what you might've expected to be an unpopular deal for Edge to deal Faulk (ended up being a wash, I guess), but the rest has been largely anecdotal.

    So more Dungy, I guess.

reading that article about luck and the other stanford qb's, one of them mentioned luck was smart enough to have a say in where he ended up.
elway mentioned carolina being a good organisation.
to tell you the truth, luck may be picking our next head coach, or someone else's. he may have the most say in any of this. he is in a good position.

Elway says that, but he's wooing Harbaugh for the Denver job. That cockblocking ************.
