Broncos launch themselves into battle with Panthers for No. 1 pick

As of this moment, the Carolina Panthers are guaranteed no worse than a top six pick in next year’s NFL draft.

The Panthers are still in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 overall pick with a 2-12 record.

The Broncos and Bengals are right behind at 3-13.

The Bills, Lions and Cardinals are all 4-12.

If the Panthers are to win one of their final two games, they could get overtaken for the top spot in the draft by the Broncos, who have a worse strength of schedule record (116-108) than the Panthers (127-96) and Bengals (130-96). Drafting order is based on opponent’s strength of schedule in the case of similar records.

I don’t think there’s anyway the Panthers beat what will be an angry Steelers team on Thursday night, but if the Falcons clinch the top seed in the playoffs before Week 17 things could get intriguing.

Denvers last two games are Houston and San Diego. Both are home games for the Donkeys. They could win one of those.
