It's simple - the people running the show are interested in making their fortune right now.

only the top players on any team are making that much annual, 18 million would actually cover a significant amount of most teams payroll.

Additionally, it's my understanding that all revenue from home games that are NOT tix are not part of the CBA / subject to revenue sharing. So teams like Dallas make a FUCKTON of their gravy (profit) from concessions at home games.

20 years ago, Concession grossed over a million for PInk Floyd shows. Close to that for Broncos games. Doesn't include souvenirs, parking.

So - YEah - they want 18 games. PReseason or not. YOu've got a team showing $8 million in PROFIT ( Panthers i think ), and take away a home game? That kills them.

It's sad that even with my shitty math my point still stands.

The money they make from TV revenue dwarfs stadium revenue, and empty stadiums are all over the league.

I didn't count non-arena events but obviously that goes into the owner's coffers as well. They deserve that if they own the arena.

Anyway, they are voluntarily giving up 'home' games so the argument is fairly moot. Every time a team goes to Europe, someone lost a home game. They may do it kicking and screaming but it's being done on a league-wide level. Will it ever even out for everyone? I guess time will tell.

What's hilarious is that the owners get paid next year regardless. So yeah, if they were so concerned about gate receipts would they lock out? They are going to be losing $8 mil per game, but the TV money is still coming through.

they could have 2 pre season games, take the cost of that second home pre season , roll it into the other ticket prices and the greedy fuckin owners still get their ticket money. so 100/9= 11.11. now your 100.00 tix are 111.11

they would lose on the concessions where people make 8 bucks an hour serving 8 dollar beers

I don't think the Panthers own any parking lots,so no revenue loss there.

Even if you add 100 roster spots to every team, what happens when Peyton or Brady goes down? Does having a bigger practice squad really matter? I just think this will result in some superbowls featuring Jim Sorgi vs. Mark Brunnell rather than Peyton vs. Brees.

As a fan I just know that my ticket prices aren't going down, and my cable bill isn't going down. So if the players end up earning less, and the TV contracts stay the same, where is the money going? Especially concerning an 18 game season. The players are right to be pissed, it's 2 extra games that they won't get paid for. Especially if they are taking a pay cut in the end.

If you're under 35 you haven't seen an owner go bankrupt. I don't think there has been one in major sports since the ABA days. So sorry if I don't have a lot of sympathy for them. I understand times are tight, I understand player salaries are outrageous.

I also understand that no matter what happens ESPN isn't giving me a break on my cable bill. So I have a hard time feeling sorry for billionaires. If business is so bad get out of it.
