    yes

obviously you dont want a QB to have to make tackles, but like you said he doesn't look timid and might mean he is a durable guy

I don't think we should become the Lions of QBs, no. Luck can be very good - we have a guy that has the potential to be very good. We get younger - so we can do what, kick off a guy that could be very good, for a 6th, and still be frightfully young?

I think fans are getting enamored with a guy because he's the top guy on the list. Two months ago that list would've had Locker on it. A month before that, Mallett.

Luck will probably be very good, but if Clausen can build on Tampa Bay, he has the chance at fighting a vet. Meanwhile we get better as a football team, which is what the draft is about.

I dunno, just my opinion - good as Luck could be, he'd need a line too. He'd need a vet QB to fight against too. He'd need the receivers to grow, too.

agreed. Regardless of whether fans are all about this guy or AJ Green, both of which are potential superstars, it's worth noting we have good young talent at WR and QB that the guy who makes the decisions, likes. And that same guy will make the decisions on who's going to coach those guys next year- it's not likely he'll want a guy who will want to jettison a guy who he was enamored with.

Which I don't think Harbaugh takes a knock for. He makes QBs, he doesn't rely on the guy he knows. That's not his thing.

Only Dareus IMO, and that's if we stay with an odd front 4-3. He won't fall for the concerns that Austin has, and his athleticism in workouts will make him shine.

Ironhead's kid is a top DE, but while some here fall in love with name DEs I think we'll stay put there.

Either way, the main thing I want is that bait to dangle so we can get a 2nd.

That would be my argument too. If the front office is satisfied with Clausen, you take a dominant LT. Gross has too many false starts and is getting old. However, if you're not sold on Clausen, you go QB and then LT. At this point though, I'd still go QB just in case Clausen doesn't work out.

OL and DT and a solid 3rd receiver can be addressed through free agency. I'd like to see us address QB, LT, and CB or S through the draft.

Me too, especially if Clausen were to establish himself as at least competent.

    2 issues with going LT:
    1. Gross lets JR win at hoops
    2. This isn't a great year for OL, is it worth a reach at #1?

I still like a trade down strategy. We have so many needs, and we could still pick up a Locker or Mallett later in round one. Plus get another one and later picks too.

Adrian Clayborn should be in the discussion of DL, although I'm not sure he is worthy of the first pick.

Allen Bailey and Jake Locker seem like money down the toilet to me.

At first glance, this looks like this is one of the weaker first-round draft classes that I have seen in the past few years.

We could be walking into a Brees Rivers situation at QB. It would be fairly hard to pass on Luck with the #1. He seems to have the intangibles, that it factor.

It seems a premier qb is essential in our own division. Freeman seems to have stepped it up this year and even on a below average year Brees is still good. Atlanta, barring injury, looks to be set for a decade at qb. Right now our ol is showing just how much our qbs have yet to even learn, let alone be actually able to achieve.
We have all seen how a good strong arm qb, who quickly makes their progression reads can overcome a lot other mistakes. It will be easier to get a coach who creates a good offense than to get qb that can really pull it off.
The defense, I think, has done good enough this year given that the offense consistently gives them no support. The three and outs can wreak havoc on our defense over a period of time.
