Liked him in the draft. Targeted him for Carolina and was surprised he fell as far as he did. Ran a spread offense at Cincy, which adversely affected his draft status.

Three observations: Pike was not overwhelmed by the situation last Sunday and kept his poise - had good body language for the short time he was in, and his height allows him to have exponentially better field vision than Clausen. Clausen will have to learn to slide into passing lanes like Drew Brees learned in San Diego. Pike doesn't have a height handicap. I also like Pike's touch on passes. Accuracy is ever a problem, but he throws a catch-able ball. He's not a stiff, either.

This is just a gut feeling, but if I had to pick a QB that gave Carolina the best chance to win, I'd pick Pike over Clausen. JC may develop into a weapon one day, but his deficiencies are too glaring right now - too easily defended. Pike at least offers to see more of the field and, thus, recognize blitzes more quickly and to see receivers down field.

Hell yeah Pike throws a catchable ball. He kinda throws it up for anyone, both teams to catch. Dude threw like...three lame ducks. They sailed. He has a terrible wind up. I like PIke, but I don't see this guy sticking around.

Fuck it, I hope he does. Whoever we can get in there to move the ball, get us a few scores, Im all for it. I don't give a shit if it's Armanti. Just someone.

Foxy seems to hate Clausen, so let's try everyone! Let's have a ball, and even throw Gross in at QB, and hell, maybe even let's have Pick A Fan week, every week. Whoever has the most creative sign (oh wait--) they get to play the fourth quarter!

    FOXY BALLLLLL!

Hell yeah, this season is AWESOME! You know what they say...when the chips are down, you see the finest coaching...so far we REALLY have....

    No.
Pike looked no worse to me than anything else that's trotted out there. The only good football played by a QB this year was a good portion of the SFO game, a good portion of the NO road game, and one-half of week one.

I don't know if it's Otah (since his strength is not necessarily pass-pro), or just poor coaching, but the pass protection is the worst I have seen from a Panther team under Fox, and probably matches that of 2000 and 2001.

Big part of it is simple: Clausen's still very new to this deal, and while he has already shown some potential, he's getting no help up front. He has one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL to "protect" him from attacking coordinators. Same could be said for Moore, although I was disappointed with his lack of improvisation and chemistry with Smith/Rosario/King (the vets we had).

Davidson, for all the talk of being a Weis understudy, is running the same passing game, essentially, that Henning did. Lot of 7 and 8 routes--LOOOOONG developing routes intended to utilize a QB's arm strength and your WR's speed attributes. That doesn't work when your entire offensive line can't hold up past a 5 or 7-step drop, CONSISTENTLY.

Smith has been a failure. All year long. Rehab from last year's broken arm, then you go fucking around and break it again away from the facility. No rapport or chemistry in four preseason games, or during the entire time in Spartanburg. I appreciate his willingness to return punts, and his unusual leadership on the sidelines, but he has dropped a ton of catchable passes and has just looked sloppy for a guy that is still one of the best at his position. Maybe it's the fucking pre-teen braces. I liked Smitty better with those spooky ass teeth.

Fox, probably like the rest of us, just assumed 34/28 + our line would be strong enough to go for 2200+ again, and by that alone, we would grind out a lot of close, boring wins.

    Hah!

It seems like the more reps you get in this offense, the more you look like you don't have a clue how to play football, not just including the QB... but Delhomme progressively forgot how to play football upon Davidson's arrival. Clausen looked better at first and then quickly took on the deer in headlights pose. Moore finished last season well, went through camp as the starter, and looked like he'd never seen an NFL field to start the season. Clausen got worse with each game while Moore sat... Moore came back looking like he could play but that quickly faded. Don't see any reason why Pike's fate would be any different.

The offense is just completely unprepared, clueless, and can't execute... it doesn't fucking matter who plays QB

Didn't we add a QB coach before last season? Each of our QBs have tanked since then. Maybe the guy is not doing an awful job but if not he sure has some awful luck.

I don't think anyone here can rate an assistant coach. I just know that you can't really turn a ho into a housewife. Coaches look brilliant when they have brilliant players.

As for Pike, he has absolutely no arm strength, but maybe he's tall enough to see over the mess our offensive line is creating. I say let 'er rip.
