The article may have some holes, and I'm always skeptical of the "nameless NFL Exec", but if much of what is in this article is the truth, then it validates my perspective on this entire season to this point.

    Who knows. Just fodder, really.

What exactly is the right way to handle the media in a shitstorm like this?

jake was hurt in 2006 and again in 2007. they had a great season in 2008 when he was healthy, up until the playoffs. what happened to Jake then is anyone's guess. personally, i think if it weren't for the "budget" they wouldn't have released Jake. But who knows?

you can't win in this league without a decent QB. at the moment our QBs are worse than awful and we have no chance. i think Pike can turn out to be a good one in 3-4 years; not convinced that Jimmy will ever not suck. this year is in the toilet, and i can live with that. my concern is what the hell we are going to do about QB the next season that they play because what i can't stomach is consecutive years in the toilet.

Just not true. I don't think many of us thought Moore was going to totally suck after the way he played last season. There were some media from outside charlotte that were questioning him, but i think most panther fans and media thought he would be decent. And, the outside media was in love with Jimmy and figured he'd be ready to start if Matt bombed. Same with receivers (really not much of a change from last year and Gettis is proving to be decent). The concern was our D-line, which has proven not to be the issue. We lack the pass rush but it's been good enough to get pressure and with Connor manning the middle the rush d has been good.

Patriots situation is not even in the universe of being comparable.

Simply put, our QBs have totally sucked. In past years they would have brought in a Vinny or a Peete to try to win a few. With the "budget" apparently Fox hasn't been allowed that option this year. Don't think anyone in the org expected it to be this bad. probably expected it to not be good but good enough to pacify the psl owners while feeding them the "youth moment" line. Sucks but there's other things that don't ... like the weather today in NC.

    Moore at halftime, week one:
    7/14, 82 yd, 1TD, 1 INT

Panthers Rushing Stats, at halftime, week one:
    18 att, 83 yards, 4.6 YPC

Giants Rushing Stats, at halftime, week one:
    13 att, 8 yards, 0.6 YPC

Moore, after the defense held NY to a FG on the opening drive of Q3, completes two crucial passes (10 yd to Rosario and 27 yd to Smith). Drive stalls, and (not really Moore's fault), Jansen shits his pants and fumbles the snap on the punt--Danny Ware recovers for NY at the CAR 38.

6 plays later, Giants score a TD (after we had them in a 2nd and 13 and another blown coverage gave them a freebie reception to Manningham for 25 yd).

That score put NY up by 8, and from there, Davidson's playcalling just turned to pure shit. That pure shit carried over into the Tampa game.

My most frustrating Moore moment all year was when he missed Gettis, streaking down the field past Ronde Barber on a go route--overcooked it by 10 yards.

No question, Moore played poor football vs. Tampa. The NYG game was well in hand until other parts around Moore begin to fall apart. After Moore's TD right before half to Smith, and after holding NY to basically 0 rushing yards in that half, I felt fucking good about things.

Since that moment, no so much.

Moore will help the current team stay competitive. How that translates into wins? We'll see. All I know is every one of you fuckers are the same--just like me--you feel better when your team wins.

So all this horseshit about "playing for the #1 pick" and "fucking up Jimmy's confidence"--I don't see it. All I see is a 5-game hole to climb out of, which is exactly what the 2004 Panthers did.

We'll see. I just like Moore better than Clausen, and until I see Clausen do something other than a couple good throws vs. the Saints and a bucket full of fumbles, my feelings on that won't change.

I think Vinny and Peete played here in time where there was a more focused commitment on the part of the collective staff to put together a winning team. Let's also not forget, bringing in a veteran--particularly one off the street who is available--doesn't always solve the problem. I recall Vinny (v JAX and v GB, playing some horrifying football). Peete started hot in 2002, but he was made to look pretty fucking bad by mid-season. I admire both men for hanging in there and making it work, but neither at that point would have given us any better shot of winning with the current cast than Moore does now.

What will happen is Singletary and company will follow the template--they will load the box and swarm. What Moore must do is precisely what he says he will do: study the film, stay calm and take the small stuff when it's there. King, Rosario on the stick routes. 34/33 on the checkdowns. This will SLOWLY open up the running game, and then, whatever you do Mr. Davidson, give 34 at least 20 carries. Just try it, and try it from some different looks (singleback comes to mind--god forbid).

Yes, the situation is grim. The entire league knows how fucking bad we are. But fuck it--put 3 back in, let him run the show, and let's see if we can't get LaFell's confidence up, continue to feed Gettis, see what we have with Clowney and Thomas, and roll from there.

*note: i'm going 4WR active Sunday if I am Fox (Gettis, LaFell, Clowney and Thomas), and I will gladly allow the Mountaineer Package to rest peacefully on the shelf for a while.
