Didn't want to start a thread being a middle-aged noob and all, but wanted to pick your brains.

    Game planning vs. The Giants

I think it is simple this week:

When we have the ball: The Giants could not stop us last season and they were ranked something like 26th in rushing Defense in preseason. Hmmm. perplexing.

If they get the ball: Stop the run. Bradshaw and Jacobs can be shut down. Jacobs is not happy right now because the media thinks he is stupid. Maybe they try to appease him. But if we make them pass, then we turn Brown, Johnson, Hardy, and Norwood (if active) loose and expose them to the speed in our seocndary. We want this. Vs. the pass, stop Kevin Boss and we make Manning throw it into our teeth.

Special Teams: I suggest that we use the extra point and kickoff teams often.

    Thank you.

We got a shot, if the preseason pass rush isn't a mirage, if we can run the ball like we did last year and Matt makes some downfield throws, like last year. I'd like to see Eli on his ass most of the game.

I have a feeling they are going to be coming in week one with a couple of hundred blitz packages. And I'm not sure how we are going to handle that.

I do not see the Giants scoring a lot of points on our defense as long as do not turn the ball over and set them up. I would play it conservative and low risk on offense. Run the ball a lot and hope Moore can keep protecting the ball like he did last year. Keep it close and try to win it with a big play to Smith late.

I think it is likely that neither team will top 20 points.

if they use Smith in the slot, I don't like us there. They have a lot of playaction in them, even without as much Jacobs, and that's a concern given that we didn't see any of that. Speaking of over-running things, if we're not out of place on playaction I have concerns of losing on backside contain. Between the tackles we're still allright, so we can take some internal cutback given that Beason's cleaning up, but outside, we're young and have to watch contain.

If I took the preseason tape to heart, if I were attacking the Panther defense I certainly would screen, and I think we're vulnerable to draws but haven't shown it.

Offensively, I'd just run, and run. CBs might both be out, but the active roster probably won't end up that fast (Jarrett, LaFell, Martin) so we don't have a lot of speed to worry them. Still, I'd consider running a lot of 4 wide personnel, to get them small, and to get matchups (I doubt they have an active roster capable of pulling a lot of cover guys with their top two gone, so you get a backup safety on a WR).

That's all I have right now, but I hope to have the usual writeup Sunday.

that's what i'm thinking. we will see a lot of cutbacks, screens, draws, reverses and fake reverses to test our inexperience.

offensively, i don't know what to expect. Moore will start but other than that i don't know what to expect from him. williams and stew will rush for over 150 yards and at least 2 TDs collectively. smitty will have more receiving yards as the rest of everyone else on the team. he will also get pissed off during the game. gross will have a false start. lafell will drop at least one easy pass. the giants will blitz a lot.

The game plan, as B&B would say, would be to score more points than NY.

Realistically, it's not our toughest matchup. Their corners' weaknesses offset our WR's apparent inability to get open. It doesn't neccesarily help them catch easy passes (LaFell)

You think, maybe, NY will try to put 8-9 in the box on about every play? :euro:

Kinda hope they do, because despite all the concern about Otah's absence, it's 34/28 can make things happen on their own. When they get past level one, and there's 8-9 in the box, we're looking at several 40+ yard runs, which has been the story of these two backs since 2008.

Not worried about Moore. Many here are friggin' out. Until he shows me a dog-dick performance, I'm going to consider him a strength.

King/Ro/Barn--That three headed monster (lol) will probably combine for 6-10 receptions. It would be neat if we continued our recent trend of good screen games, including the bubble and (god forbid) the 2005 Smoke Special.

Defensively, I don't think the pressure generated in four consecutive P/S games, including Q4 of '09, was some sort of fucking fluke. As I have said since last year, In Meeks I Trust. I just think he will outcoach New York, and with the kind of pressure we have been getting, and three solid corners, it could be a pretty miserable day for Eli.

And, make no mistake--the Giants will pass the ball a lot. I don't give a fuck who starts at HB for them, or how they spell the starter. They pass, and if you generate consistent pressure on Eli, he giveth.

If we go with Goodson returning kicks and Munnerlyn returning punts, we're ok, perhaps even dazzling. Coverage units will need to do their part, and let's hope that Danny Crossman's "personal ball washer" does his part in his first RS game as STC.

Baker, when our drives stall around mid-field, will be critical. Last forecast I saw was showers and 15-20 MPH winds. On that new, plush fake grass, drop some spin on that shit, JB, and make 'em pay for it. No more coffin-corner Feagles. It's the Matt Dodge show now, who crammed 2 whole punts inside the 20 in the preseason, with one blocked. Big Dick Baker nudged 6 inside the 20, with a 51+ yard average. Don't overlook this advantage on the "non-returnable" punts (those punted from around your own 45)

I don't know what the shit will happen. I thought we would pink-sock Dick Jauron last October, and I thought the The Childress Express would run us over last December.

If we don't come out and produce 4-6 giveaways from a quarterback with autism, than it's an upgrade from last season's opener, I guess.

    Lots of good suggestions here

I think it is paramount that the Panthers run the ball and stay away from 3rd and long situations. Otah is out so its even more crucial when runnign to that side for Fiamatta to help blocking. D-Line is a strength of the Giants so this brings out a strength on strength.

If Edwards isn't deactivated I say that he should be given a few shots as the "mountaineer package" QB with explicit instructions to throw the ball out of bounds if there is nothing there.

Let's get Steve Smith into the game early. Moore can get the ball to him and don't forget that regardless of how he says he has matured and won't let other players get under his skin, it was a Giant (Michael Johnson) who put the hit on him that broke it. Smitty hasn't forgotten regardless of whether he admits it now.

I am really excited to see how this young group on Defense answers the bell. Meeks seems to have them playing together and with purpose. In all honesty not much on the Giants offense scares me. They have pretty much the same thing they had in December but just a year older.

No way this should be a 7 point favorite for the Giants. For opening week it seems this is predicted to be the most lopsided game. (yes I know the pointspread is only about evening out the money bet but this is a bad spread) Im thinking this is a 17-14 or 20-17 type game with a battle of field position and field goals in teh 4th quarter.
