He missed a lot of time when he was here as well. Those who keep crying because we moved him need to remember that.

Jets' Kris Jenkins has plenty to lose

FLORHAM PARK — Kris Jenkins hasn’t played football since suffering a torn ACL last October and still isn’t allowed to run, so it’s probably not a surprise that the Jets’ nose tackle currently weighs 390 pounds.

But it’s no big deal to him, because he’s had it worse before.

"This [rehab] was by far the easiest," Jenkins said Thursday. "I didn’t get over 400 pounds, so that was a victory. When I [injured] the knee last time, I was at 420."

That was when he had a torn ACL in his right knee with Carolina in the season opener in 2005. He returned and went to the Pro Bowl in 2006.

"I have stayed in a moderate range" now, he said, "and it’s just one of those things where I kept my weight manageable."

But he wants to lose a lot more, and not only because of the three-way weight-loss challenge that also includes right tackle Damien Woody and coach Rex Ryan. The Jets want the 6-foot-4 Jenkins to shed 30 pounds before players report for training camp Aug. 1, and his goal is to lose even more.

"I’ve got to drop 45 [pounds] to be where I want to be at," said Jenkins. "I’m ready to show the guys up. It’s hard because I know I have the most muscle out of both the other guys doing it."

Last season Jenkins was listed at 360 but was believed to be at about 370.

Jenkins is running in a pool, but another one of his goals is to be ready to fully participate in mandatory minicamp June 14-16. He indicated he needs to get down to 375 pounds to be cleared by the Jets’ trainers for that event.

Ryan and the two players will be weighed on July 30, and the winner will make a donation to a charity of his choice. But there are many other reasons Jenkins, who is married and has three children, wants to drop some weight.

"We made up our minds that we’re going to fight this thing," Jenkins said. "No offense to anybody, but we don’t want to be the old people that just give up [and say], ‘I’m comfortable sitting on the couch, eating Cheetos.’ I don’t want to be that guy. I want to be able to play with my kids and be able to do all that stuff."

jenkins was one of my favorites on the team. bad fatass mofo. that said, it's fun to compare how davis is nearly already back from his knee injury, and buffet-boy is splashing in a pool and working on getting slightly smaller in mass than a macy's parade balloon.
