I was just watching NFL total access and Charlie Casserly stated that he had spoken to John Fox. He said John Fox told him that they like Matt Moore and he is the starter and there would be no competition in camp. We like what Matt Moore did last year and he's the starter. Of course Charley Casserly added that he felt that if Matt Moore didn't play well and Clausen did, then the Carolina Panthers would re-evaluate the quarterback situation. According to everyone on the NFL network they all said Jimmy Clausen was the most ready to start qb drafted, even more so than Sam Bradford, due to the pro style offense Clausen ran and the offense scheme being similar to Charlie Weis.

Is this just a load of bull? I like Matt Moore and want to see what he can do as the starter from day one, but what if Jimmy just lights it up in camp? Either way this is a good situation to have.

Moore is the starter unless he gets hurt or just plain sucks in camp and the pre-season.

I believe Moore will have until the bye week, at the very least, but we'll see.

Fox not the type to start a rookie, even at something as 'simple' as rb.

Barring injury or the total suck, Moore is the guy.

I wonder who starts opposite smitty....

I don't want Clausen touching the field outside of spot duty this year.

It's Moore's job to lose. If he keeps up with what he did at the end of last season I don't see Clausen playing much. Still, I would love to see Clausen come in and just *WOW* everybody.

And there is the contract situation with Moore. He's playing under one year tender, which makes him a UFA at the end of the year.

Clausen gives us options, and the coaches need to see enough of him to figure out if we can let Moore walk vs committing $5mm/yr+ to him for the long term.

If Moore plays great, and we re-sign him to a long term deal I bet Clausen gets traded.

Fox is loyal too a fault IMO. Think about how long he stuck by Rodney Peete before switching out to Delhome and then Delhome for Moore.

Moore would have to lay some serious eggs to for Clausen to get the nod. In fact, it really wouldnt shock me if Clausen was #3. If I recall correctly Delhome was 3 when he leap frogged to starter when Peet finally gave out.

What? Jake sat behind Peete one camp and a half of a game, now if Rodney hadn't severely sucked in that half, Jake may have had to wait until our third game (we had a bye in week 3).

And yep, I believe you're right, my memory says Weinke was #2 at that time.

Now Jake for Moore last year, absolutely astonishing to me Fox rode Jake that long.

Gamebook says Weinke was inactive third when Jake took over.
