eh, it's not grumpy. i just see it differently than you. the 2005 draft (i think) which has only produced davis, should have been reason enough to keep hurney out of any silly top recognition. we'd have been better off sitting at our table playing paper football the rest of the draft after the davis pick and just let time expire pick after pick. cheaper too. might have helped this year.

Maybes = Miami, Philadelphia, Giants, Jets, New Orleans

Seems weird to leave New England off that list, but they've been scavenged so much over the years, all they have left is Kraft and Belichek. They're gonna struggle until they get good people around Belichek again.

On a more positive note, I like Hurney & Fox. I really do.

I think our drafting blunders had a lot more to do with the previous scouting department than it did with Hurney. As soon as we got a new scouting director, our picks got tremendously better.

Fox is loyal to a fault, but I can live with that (to an extent). I'll take that over incompetence or a lack of leadership ability (see Turner, Norv; Cameron, Cam; Petrino, Bobby, etc.)

He gave Crossman WAY too long to get things going, but that's finally been corrected. Trgo was tougher, but as unsure as I was about bringing Meeks on, so far it appears to be an upgrade without having to turn over half our defensive roster -- a huge plus. As much as we (myself included) have blasted Davidson, I think he's proven that his offense works with our personnel, and he's developing as a playcaller. Two 1100-yard rushers doesn't happen by accident, and considering we've struggled to get ONE 1000 yard rusher in a season before '08, that's saying something in JD's favor. I'm happy to say I was wrong about him.

All of that being said, I think Hurney/Fox & Co. are good. Not all-world, but very good. Probably good enough to get us to another Super Bowl, and maybe win it. I just cringe when I hear members of the media talking about our front office in the same context as those who lead perrenial playoff teams and Super Bowl contenders. We're just not there yet. We haven't earned that status.

I'd throw houston in there, purely from a front office standpoint, they've stacked lots of talent on that team.

I considered Houston, but I don't think they're quite where we are yet. It sure looks like they're making good moves, though.
