Maybe I came across as panicky. What I mean is quite the contrary. I was saying that if they are going young and hitting the reset button on this season to clear the books and reload for 2011, than I am all for it. One year for Moore is a great deal. When he is not quite the guy, there's no $13M buyout to have to swallow. That's what made the Jake move so odd. If you are going to pay him anyway (the guarantee), then get some work out of him, giving advice and mentoring Moore as best he can. Get some value for what's left of Jake.

By some estimations, the free agent class is older (just like Moose). If you let Peppers walk to clear the books, then why pay more than you have to for aging free agents? That defeats the purpose of rebuilding, unless you sign everyone to short deals (and they always want security in the form of years over the biggest dollars, which puts you back in the same spot you're in now.)

As a fan, I'm saying I am cool with this short-term direction of getting clear of the unruly contracts when a new CBA comes about. As a season-ticket holder, I may have more of a problem with it, seeing as I'm paying premium prices for a little less of a competitive product, but the young core (Beason on defense, the RB tandem and OLine on offense) is exciting to think about when surrounded by other talent (in a few years).

If Moore works out, great. If not, it's an easier divorce. Either way, the money says no one knows for sure and that's good business.

Sorry for the long musings. Either I'm onto something or have to rationalize things that don't quite add up to me. Thanks for a moment of cyberspace.

I feel like I have to parse words every time I post on here. My whole point was that if Moore can play the whole year like he played the last five games of last year then we have found a QB of the present and for the future. I also wanted to say that Jake was never a QB who could put up an entire season with a 98.5 QB rating so we would be in better shape than we have ever been.

Granted it is still questionable whether Moore can do it for an entire season but I am optimistic because there is no reason to think he can't. He will have the entire off season to prepare as the starter and take the starter reps in practice. He should get better as a result.

I think Moore could get better, stay the same or get worse. Who the heck knows. But, I feel encouraged that I'm leaning towards better, considering he'll get primary reps with the starters as well as continued experience.

are we in a better position to win as much as we'd like next year? probably not, but i'm satisfied with delhomme gone so we don't have the temptation of rolling him back out as the starter. i knew fox couldn't/wouldn't wally pipp him next year. i'm pleased we aren't dumping another nickel on peppers. good times a plenty here but it was time to go.
i'm fine with struggle if it means a better tomorrow. i only wonder if the seemingly massive youth crusade isn't too much change and turnover at one time...and that is the type of blundering buffoonery that concerns me with what's gone on so far.

if it does come down to a sacrificial year, it wouldn't end up being our first. The last time it worked out fairly well. But, we're too talented for what happened last time, and to me this is a 2007 type transitional year, not a real rebuilding year. I don't think this team is intending on letting the youth hang, or the staff lie to waste. Either way, it's been one of the most interesting offseasons we've had, and yet we haven't really cut a single check.

I'm calling it rebuilding, not transitional. Or maybe transitioning to the rebuilding with the next staff.

As a fan of course I always want our team to win... However knowing that the Panthers cleared poisionus contracts off the book in an uncapped year, smartly didn't pay Peppers over a million a game this season, and are preparing for a lockout and or the structure of a new CBA before locking up key players with new long term deals I can deal with this season as it is.

whatever, the nfl is a now league. Im glad Richardson can see in the future and see the lockout. What if there is no lockout? Dont see any of the other owners pissing the year away. not only has Richardson robbed ticket owners of a season but he has robbed the players of a season.

If you're ok with tanking the season then you're obviously not a season ticket holder or paid thousands on psl's. Jerry Richardson was kind enough to raise tickets prices this year but doesnt do a fucking thing to make the team better. Fuck him.

Maybe Moore has a better outing next time. We can still have a good season, he will have to be more efficient though.
