LOL - OK, well, I wasn't trying to brag about it. If you don't think he'd be any good, fine, but I can guarantee he would try hard if he got a chance.

yes. And if Armanti Edwards went to Arizona you wouldn't know him.

I have no problem with him, honestly, but he's not an exceptional talent. He's a guy who could be a very good WR, and I'm OK with that. I also think that if I'm putting a draft pick into a guy who we want to play soon, he should probably have played the position before.
edit - you could consider him a positive for the Wildcat, but I'm not in favor of that either.

Yes, but if I hadn't heard of him and he could play, then I wouldn't care that I hadn't heard of him or where he went to school. I hadn't heard of Steve Smith either.

Maybe he's not an exceptional talent. There are apparently some people within the organization who are open enough to the possibility that he is an exceptional talent to spend considerable time looking into it. If they decide he's not, then all this is moot. If they decide he's worth a late pick or inviting to camp, then I'll trust Fox and company to use maximize the potential they see. If that's as a wide out, that's fine. But he does have an arm. He wasn't just a runner who passed occasionally. He had the same completion percentage and almost as many yards as Jimmy Clausen last year - and that's with missing a game. Obviously, it wasn't against the same level of competition and I'm not saying that he has to be a qb. I just don't think it's right to reject it out of hand.

So you only know him because he's from App, aren't aware that he's not a first or second tier prospect at either position, and you seem to have a "he's not just an athlete" persecution complex. I didn't reject it out of hand, I gave solid reasons why he's not an ideal solution at either position we have. You kinda breezed past my reasons.

I'm aware that he's rated as a fifth or sixth round prospect at best - more likely a seventh rounder or UFA. And I'm not even saying we should take him. There are people within the organization who get paid to make those determinations and they seem to be giving Edwards a fair amount of consideration. I do understand and respect your reservations. If other people didn't share those reservations, obviously he'd be rated higher and I'm not saying that he should be. All I'm saying is that if the organization brings him in (because you and I don't make those decisions) do they take into consideration that the kid brings a live arm that was exceptional enough to take an otherwise unexceptional team to a national championship, or do they say that he has to be a wide receiver because he's one inch shorter than Drew Brees?

They scout everyone. I've never seen a private workout be an indicator of specific interest more than anything else.

    >>because he's one inch shorter than Drew Brees?

I never brought up his height. But, Brees is certainly a bigger exception than a rule.

Are they going to take all things into consideration? Yes. Does Edwards have a lot to overcome, and therefore make for a cozy story? Yes. Does the team also scout teams outside this state? Yes.

He's basically the 1-AA version of Pat White.
