He's going to be productive into his early 30's, if not longer. He's someone we need to keep. I love Stewart too, but his running style and injury history don't bode well for longevity.

i just get a feeling that DW (& agent) will want to go on to a larger market (and larger dollas)

hope Stewart can stay healthier . . . if he can he'll probably be here longer

It has been talked about on here before that the second contract a running back gets rarely works out. DW may be a little different since he saw limited action his first two years.

How long is left on his rookie deal anyway?

Before the end of the season I would have said an extension is critical, but J-Stew came on and was terrific so we have some wiggle room to work with DW. That being said keeping that tandem together for another couple years would give us a great ground game for the foreseeable future. So while its not imperative we resign him it'll clearly give us a boost on the ground.
The question you have to ask is do we need two great backs like that? Is DW + Sutton or JStew + Sutton good enough?
The other thing is JStew and DW are pretty gay together so they might be upset if you split them up.

    This is the last year.

Personal opinion is an extension for DW should be dependent on a lockout. If there's a lockout year we're paying a RB that will be a year older when he's used again. Basically we're losing a year, and that doesn't bode well for RBs.

I would probably not lock him up until I knew what was going to happen with the lockout. Worst case we lose him and have to feature Stewart.
