Entering his 10th season the only guy on the roster with more than 7 seasons served now (aside from Kasay & Baker) is Smitty. Would the panters front office consider shopping him? IMO it would fit with the current direction. Didn't they say something recently about "building through the draft"? Since there is only one team currently with a more pitiful collection of picks (da bears) maybe they plan on adding to those 5 measly picks.

    just sayin' . . . Don't be too surprised

I think we would trade a running back before Smitty.

What sort of compensation are you expecting?

Only team I could see being in the market for it would be Miami, but I'm not sure you could pry their first out.

So I definitely won't be able to sell our tickets this year.

does it matter what I (or you) would expect? Who knows what our FO would take in exchange. Looking at the roster he is the player who would garner the most attention IMO. There are (and will be) enough RBs out there and for cheaper than either of our starters. There are zero proven game changing WRs out there for grabs and the panthers phones would be ringing

We're going after Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. Won't have anyone to throw to, but we'll be set at QB. :cheer: :pot: :peacemanmw:

I would really hope they do not trade Smith. He should have three or four more good years left. I would want some good picks and or players in return for him because he is still one of the better WRs in the league.

If for some reason they would happen to trade him I hope they feel very confident we can run the ball 50-60 times a game cuz we'd have no one to throw too no matter who the QB was.

You just do not trade a guy like Smith. There is no way you can get value for him in draft picks. Even if we got a top ten pick for him there is no guarantee that the top WR in the draft will be anywhere near as good as Smith. There have been plenty of WR bust in recent years who were drafted high.

None of the moves we have made so far really hurt us but moving Smith would do that.

rake, not bragging here, but your a couple months behind me. I said just in January that as much as I'd hate to lose Smitty,,, trading him to get some picks in the draft does make good sense. And seriously I don't mean that in no way as criticism to him whatsoever. My rationale is given all our best talent who could bring in draft picks, we need to keep all the youngens (Beason, Deangelo, TDavis, Stew). Smitty would bring bigtime interest, yet given his age he just makes the most sense to shop.

I'm not sure I would like it,,, but I would understand it if they did it.

And Thelt, I completely disagree. Sure you never know if a draft pick will even be good, much less a superstar. But Smitty's age is the biggest reason why he makes the most sense to dangle. See what you can get for him,,, if you don't like the fish you catch, throw it back and keep him. I'd be interested what somebody would give us, it may surprise you.
