An echo can easily determine the dimensions of the heart, which can be compared to normal ranges based on height and weight.

The controversy in high school sports is a cost benefit thing...some people are calling for echos to be included with the pre-participation physical, but the current practice (and policy) is for screening questions by the physician doing the physical, and further testing if any red flags are raised (mostly history of sudden death, passing out, etc).

In the pros, I can see that situation being a little more complex..team owners dont want their high dollar investments not being allowed to play...they would rather not know.

Hm, there are blood tests to screen for it in cats now. Seems like they'd have it for people as well. Maybe soon.

Unless there are a significant number of over sized hearts because the population is known for cocaine and steroid use.

My thoughts almost exactly. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not buying "enlarged heart". I'm thinking there's chemicals involved.

    Either way, 3.

Actually, enlarged heart is a common killer of young people, and is particuarly commong in elite athletes.
