Dungy is a guy I can see being the man in Carolina. Ron Meeks is already here. Dungy might have to change the OC, but who knows. The offense seemed to take on a new dimension when Moore was in. I don't know if that was planning and play calling or just the difference in the player. If it was the former, I'd like to know who was doing it at that time.

Dungy has a job in the NFL on the competition committee doesn't he? Plus he just turned down a job as Team President with the Seahawks, why would he accept a job as a head coach anywhere?

Besides he went from having Trent Dilfer & Shaun King to having Payton Manning as a QB... it doesn't get any better than that.

I think he's done with coaching. He wants to work in the NFL. He's already bitching about the Rooney rule getting abused.

He was on the Competition Comittee previously which isn't really a job. Now he leads some player advisory forum. I don't think that would keep him from coaching if he wanted to. But yeah, I doubt he will.

From what I know, Fox basically has the key to the Uptown Cabaret, so I'm not sure why he'd want to walk away from that.

I don't think the out offer is anything more than the Panthers letting Fox know that he could go out and get a long-term deal if that kind of thing presented itself. It also means that the Panthers are saying that they are definately not going to be careless with the funds until they know more about how contract negotiations with the players' union and the pending uncapped and subsequent lockout situations play out.

If Fox does leave, then perhaps Dungy could come in a pair up with Meeks, but as GM with Meeks as HC.

Richardson is a shrewd businessman and he could also be setting the franchise up for sale. Not having a lot of contract overhead makes the proposition of selling the controlling interest in the team much easier. His sons are out of the business, and with the inheritance taxes looming over Richardson's health, it would make sense to unload his controlling interest in the franchise before the lockout.

Fox is Richardson's kind of coach. He wouldn't run him off for playing things close to the vest. He's just being smart with his investment. He also couldn't blame Fox for the way that the Peppers situation shaped the offseason as far as limiting the money available to do other things.

When the critical decsion about starting QB came up, the Panthers were going on the road to play Arizona, and then at New Orleans. Would you really want to throw Moore out there in that situation - also knowing that Jake was incredibly successful playing in the Superdome? Jake won at AZ and didn't play too poorly at NO so that decision wasn't totally stupid.

Gotta also give Fox credit for letting go coaches when he needed to, and making a pretty good hire in Meeks. Davidson wasn't his first choice, but nothing could really be said good or bad about that, other than he was willing to address areas that needed improvement by making coaching changes where he could.

I know Fox isn't really popular on this board, but we could be in worse shape. Would you have liked to be Tampa Bay this year?

Laceration, I agree JR wouldn't run Fox off for playing close to the vest, heck he probably wouldn't run Fox off for anything. Fox has done a lot of good things for this organization.

But,,, the first dagger was not extending Fox's contract. Now this week its reported Fox has been told "he's free to leave". Nothing about these 2 things says "I want you back". Could be JR's way of simply allowing Fox to leave on his own.

There was supposedly a meeting between the 2 yesterday,,, anyone seen any news reports about this alleged meeting?

Dungy is a good coach and I would not be upset if he came here. I doubt very much would change if he did though. We already run his defense. His offenses in Tampa were pretty basic ball control type units. He only opened up when he paired up with Peyton. Peyton don't play here in case you missed it.
